Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Julieaetta SUMNER ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, October 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local Dec. 12, 1912 p.1 Another Old Settler Passed to Reward Juliaetta Jordan was born Feb. 18, 1831, in Underhill, Ver. She was the youngest child of John and Zeruah Jordan. Their family consisted of ten children, one of which died in infancy. After the death of her parents she came to Wisconsin to reside with her sisters in the southern part of the state, after spending some time there she came to Poygan in 1850 to visit another sister, Mrs. Philander Hall, and while there she taught the first school that was ever taught in the town of Poygan and was engaged in teaching there several terms. On Dec. 31, 1854 she was married to Zenas M. Sumner, of the town of Winneconne, and immediately after their marriage they went to reside on a farm two and one-half miles southwest of the village, where they lived for nearly forty years. Their union was blessed by three children, two sons and one daughter, Arthur C. and Herbert, the latter who died in infancy, and Mrs. Gustavus Kahn. July 21, 1897 her husband died, after which she resided part of the time with her son on the farm homestead, and with her daughter in the village. At the time of her death, which occurred Friday evening, Dec. 6, she was the only surviving member of her family, all her sisters and brothers having passed away before her. Of her three children, her daughter, Mrs. Gustavus Kahn, is her only survivor, her son, Arthur, having passed away ten days previous to her death. She was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church all her life, having united with that church in her early childhood. On Tuesday, Dec. 10, she was laid to rest in the Winneconne cemetery beside her husband.
