Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Henry VAN VALKENBURG ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Daily Northwestern January 25, 1901 p. 1 Well Known Resident Passes Away Henry Van Valkenburg Dies Early This Morning Henry Van Valkenburg of 94 Franklin avenue, an esteemed resident of this city for the past thirty years died this morning at 7:20 o'clock after a brief illness. His death was quite sudden as his condition was not considered critical until during the night. He first suffered a severe attack of the grip and his heart became affected. Rheumatism of the heart was given as the cause of his passing away. Mr. Van Valkenburg was seventy years of age the first of last August. He was born in Fultonham, New York, and came to this city in 1871, living here from that time until death. He was a veteran of the civil war, enlisting at Springfield, Wis. He was a member of Roger's battery, Co. A, one of the first companies of heavy artillery to go to the front. The members of his battery were the survivors of Co. K, which suffered great loss in the battle of Bull Run, and they were stationed at Alexandria and Washington, D. C. Deceased was a member of Phil H. Sheridan post, No. 10, and the post will have charge of the funeral. Ever since the war Mr. Van Valkenburg was disabled and during his residence here was unable to do any heavy labor. During his early life he followed the occupation of a farmer. He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Susana Van Valkenburg. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon from the residence. No flowers.
