Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Edgar VREDENBURGH ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, November 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local Sept. 17, 1914 p.2 Edgar Vredenburg was born at Kingston, N.Y., Nov. 1, 1840. At an early age he came with his parents to Winnebago county, settling on a farm east of the village. Here he grew to manhood, and in 1862 he enlisted as a private in Co. B., 21st Wisconsin volunteers. He marched with Sherman to the sea, and at the close of the war was mustered out as first lieutenant. He returned to his home and in 1866, was married to Lizetta, oldest daughter of the late Stephen Allen. They lived on the farm until 1892, when they moved into the village, occupying the home on East Main street, where they spent their remaining years. He died August 31, 1914. For years he was notary public, and to his care was entrusted the preparation of the pension vouchers until the law was changed. He was also justice of the peace, and a member of the board of education. He performed the duties of these positions with a careful conscientiousness which was one of his chief characteristics. A judicious business manager, he accumulated a comfortable property, and was known as a man of good judgment and even disposition, a good citizen in every sense of the term. He was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity, and was well known among the G.A.R. men of the state, as he usually attended the reunions of his regiment. The last years of his life were clouded by illness, and the loss of his wife, who died four years ago. Having no children, Mr. and Mrs. Vredenburgh adopted a little one whom they named Evelyn, now Mrs. Abram C. Miller, who has been the comfort of their declining year, and who survives to gratefully remember their loving care.
