Menasha, Wis., July 19- The sad death by drowning of Master Lester Whipple occurred last evening at 7:30 o'clock. The accident took place while the little fellow, in company with several of his favorite associates, was in bathing near the dock of the yacht Marguerite. Lester had swam out a considerable distance and was on the return trip when his strength gave out and he called for help. Two of his companions immediately swan to the rescue but were nearly drowned in their heroic efforts to save the little fellow. Despite all that they could do he sank the third time. His body was rescued in a short time and taken to the home of his grief-stricken parents. Dr. Dodge was called but his ablest efforts were of no avail. Had the boys noticed a rowboat near the shore they could easily have rescued him, but in the hurry the boat was overlooked. The Marguerite had just left her dock when the accident occurred and hearing the cries her crew immediately changed her course toward the spot where the boy disappeared. There was no breeze and they arrived too late. Messrs. James Jones and Staff Little of the crew had prepared themselves for diving by throwing off their excess clothing and set to work at one. It was through the steady work of the crew that the body was quickly recovered. Lester Whipple was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whipple residing on Broad street. He was fourteen years of age and a bright and ambitious fellow. He was a various times employed in delivering The Daily Northwestern. His funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. Perry will officiate. I.O.G.T. entertainment had just begun when news of the drowning reached the lodge room. Everything was indefinitely postponed and the organization will attend the funeral in a body.
