Miss Marie Zehner was born in School Kill County, Penn., in 1821. In the year 1835 her parents emigrated to Ashland county, Ohio, making the trip with ox teams and two wagons. She was united in marriage at that place to John Zehner and in 1853 they came to this section and settled on a farm at Dale. In 1900 they suffered the misfortune of losing their home by fire, afterwards making their home with their children. Mr. Zehner passed away at the home of George Mader, in the village, in the fall of 1903, at the age of 81 years. The following spring Mrs. Zehner went to visit her daughter at Menasha, spending the succeeding winter at Dale, returning to Menasha, where, in 1910, she fell in her room, sustaining injuries to her hip, to which her death is attributed. The funeral was held at Dale on Wednesday, Sept. 4, where she was laid to rest beside her husband. She leaves to mourn here loss five daughters, two sister, a large number of grand-children and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.
