Ford of the Town of Oskhosh, in the county Winnebago, in the State of Wisconsin, being of sound mind and memory and mindful of the uncertainty of human life, do make publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner following: First: I give, devise and bequeath to my son Charles Ford the sum of two thousand dollars. Second: I give, devise and bequeath to my son Orville Ford two thousand dollars. Third: I give devise and bequeath to my son John R. Ford the sum of one thousand dollars. Fourth: I give devise and bequeath to my son Samuel E. Ford the sum of one thousand dollars. I also give and bequeath to Samuel E. Ford four hundred dollars of his brothers legacies share of my estate. Fifth: I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary E. Ford, wife of Hiram Shoemaker the sum of one thousand dollars. Sixth: I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Ann Ford, wife of C.H. Service the sum of one thousand dollars. Seventh: I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Matilda Ford Newman, wife of Cornelius Newman, the sum of one thousand dollars. Eighth: I give devise and bequeath to my granddaughter Cary Ford daughter of William E. Ford, my son now deceased, the sum of three hundred dollars. Ninth: I give devise and bequeath to my son Lyman M. Ford the sum of two hundred dollars. Tenth: I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Caroline Fails, the sum of one hundred dollars. Eleventh: I direct that my son Charles Ford and my son Orville Ford and my granddaugher Cary Ford shall have their full legacies nothwithstanding my estate may decrease in value. Twelfth: I direct that if my estate shall have more than the said legacies then the surplus of my estate shall be divided equally among the said ten heirs. Thirtheenth: I authorize and direct my executors to sell my farm where I now reside in Oshkosh a follows, if it is not sold by me in my life and half of the [remainder of the pages are missing] Codicil - - Whereas I, William E. Ford, of Vinland, have herebefore made my last will and testament bearing date the 30th day of June 1868, and whereas I, being of sound mind, memory, and understanding, desire to alter and modify said will in certain particulars, do make this my codicil, to said will as follows to wit: First - Having paid to Charles Ford and Orville Ford each their full share of my estate since the making of said will, it is my will and I hereby direct that the legacies bequeathed to each of them (viz $2000) in said will be not paid and said fragments are hereby revoked and anulled. Second - Whenas I have bequeathed the sum of one thousand dollars to each of my children John R. Ford, Samuel E. Ford, mary E. Shoemaker, Nancy A. Service and Matilda Newman in said will testament, i hereby further will and direct that each of said bequeaths and legacies be and the same is hereby made upon the express condition that of my wife Eliza Ford shall survive me, each of said legacies herein last above named, are to pay to and for her the support of the said Eliza Ford, semianually each an equal proportion of such sum as shall be necessary and proper for the comfortable and appropriate and suitable support of said Eliza Ford during her natural life. And I hereby will and direct that this my condicil be annexed to said last will and made a part thereof bereby revoking every word sentence or thing in said will contrary to and in consistent to this my condicil anything therein to the contrary notwithstanding. In witness where of I hereunto set my hand and seal this 23rd day of March 1869. William E. Ford The above condicil consisting of one sheet of paper was now signed by the said William E. Ford and by him published and declared to be a condicil to his last will and testament and was signed in his presence of each of us and we in his presence and at his request and in the presence of each other, hereunto signers the same as witnessesths: Aurelia E. Servis of Vinland, Winnebago Co., Wisc Frank L. Servis of Vinland, Winnebago Co., Wisconsin [Received from John W. Ford on August 20, 1869.] Additional Comments: "Cary Ford" was Corine (Carrie) Ford, the daugher of the late William E. Ford Jr. and Amelia Elizabeth Imus (Ford). "Caroline Fails" was daughter Caroline Ford (Lent)(Fales) who was married to Asa O. Fales and living in Anoka County, Minnesota in 1868-69. Aurelia E. Servis was the oldest daughter of Charles Henry Service and Nancy Ann Ford (Wheeler), so she was a grand-daughter of William E. Ford Sr. William E. Ford Sr. died August 8, 1869, in/near Neenah, Winnebago Co., Wisconsin. His widow, Eliza Ann McBride (Ford) outlived him by 4 years. She died on November 22, 1873. Both are buried in Brooks Cemetery, Oshkosh, Winnebago Co., Wisconsin. Initially his estate was valued at about six thousand dollars. The will and the condicil were proven-up in court by the testimony of granddaughter Aurelia Estella Service and Frank L. Servis (relationship of Frank L. Servis if any within the family is unknown) giving testimony in court on September 21, 1869. Son John R. Ford, son-in-law Hiram Shoemaker, son-in-law Charles H. Service, and son-in-law Cornelius Newman were appointed to appraise the estate. William E. Ford Sr.'s ownership in the Neenah Paper Mill was sold for $10,500. Total assets showed as being owned by the estate were $13,097.63 [Other owners in the mill included John R. Ford and wife Hattie M. Imus, Cornelius Newman and wife Matilda P. Ford, William E. Ford Jr.'s widow Elizabeth Amelia Imus (Ford), and Hiram Shoemaker and his wife Mary E.
