High Ercall Letters - c 1850-1870. Transcribed by Roberta's mother, contributed by Roberta Bailey : Family letters from England to a family who lived in Wood County, WI dating from the 1850's to the 1870's. Two brothers, Thomas & John Davies, came to America leaving their parents & siblings in England. Some of these letters are complete with the mispellings & some have been cleaned up. Roberta's mother started transcribing them several years ago but passed away before finishing so Roberta picked up where she left off. In all it looks like there are 16. High Ercall Wellington Salop Oct the 15th My Dear Brother an Neese Mother an I was very pleased to receive a Letter from Esther. She said she was going to send us a preasent. I have benn wating an wondring when it wauld come but as it as not come I fear it must hav gottn lost. I wrot you a letter some time ago. You ---- to her an it about the same time as I got --- I told you all what the Bogs war doing an have many children. The --- I haf you received it an I sent you a news papar at the same time – pleas giv my Lov to Clara an tell hir I was sory my letre could not find hir. You wanted to know wher we was living. – the --- --- down to Ercall nearly class to the church. When the wanted the old house to build Mr Webster his new an the spot whear ours stood so that ---- an ours was taken down. The have altred Walton – much. You would not know the plase as the farm and house that we are living in is so small an ---- ther is no upstars only a small chambr so that we could not possably give you a nights lodging if you war to come to England We hope you have ad a good harvust. It as been a – good in some plases in this country but its all ous an ------. Shall soon be Christmas Mother an I wish you all a vry Happy Chrstmas.
