High Ercall Letters - c 1850-1870. Transcribed by Roberta's mother, contributed by Roberta Bailey : Family letters from England to a family who lived in Wood County, WI dating from the 1850's to the 1870's. Two brothers, Thomas & John Davies, came to America leaving their parents & siblings in England. Some of these letters are complete with the mispellings & some have been cleaned up. Roberta's mother started transcribing them several years ago but passed away before finishing so Roberta picked up where she left off. In all it looks like there are 16. High Ercall Wellington Salop My Dear Brother Thank you viry much for the letter and likeness mother was verry pleased to see it you are vry like what Dear father was I didn’t send one of mother same time to yo but I never hird if it arrived safly in Amareca and as I have only one left I should like to be shour that the on I did send came all right befoar sending another & I wrot to your daughter Clarah last year in answar to a letter she wrot to me and the lette was riturnd iin about a month after coming to Ameraca and I put the direction she sent me so pleas send me word how it was it did not find hir there is not much in England but hard work and little money so if you have got money and freands their you are much bette for ther is not much of eather in England all our old freans ar dead and mother and I ar now living in an old house that will ardly old us wher shall you go if you sell yor farm pleas send us word and when you send a gain pleas send another likeness as you ave brothers that want one the(y) are all married with familys but the all have to work vry hard for what the get and I have to woark very hard with my needl to keep my self and mother gets what she can with knitting she as been vry poorly all the winter wich as bean a vry long one so now I must canclude with mother and my love to you and all an to Clarah I was sorry my letter did not find her she must hav sent me to wron dirction Good by Dir Brother from your loving mother and sister E Davies The pakag cam all right Transcribed by Roberta Bailey Edited by "MAK" (c) Copyright 2003 Roberta Bailey .
