PART 1 THE DAUGHERTY'S OF BARBOUR COUNTY, WV (VA) The Daugherty's of Barbour County, wv(va) first came to Barbour County from Rockingham County, Virginia circa 1850. The Daugherty's in Barbour County are descendents Joshua "John" Daugherty (Doherty) and Hannah Turkeyheiser. Hannah & Joshua were married 25 Dec. 1821 in North River, Rockingham,VA. Joshua is the son of John Daugherty and Elizabeth Byers of Rockingham (Augusta) County, VA. John's origins are unknown although word of mouth clue from a distant relative thinks it may have been Lancaster County, PA, this has not been researched thourghly. Hannah & Joshua had 6, perhaps 7 children and they were William Henry Harrison (b. 1823), Jacob A. Daugherty (b. 26 June 1826), Edmund T. (b. 1828), Sarah D. (b. 1830?), John (b. 1832?), Nancy C. (b. 1834?) and Mary? (b. 1836?). After Joshua died in 1822, the family moved to Barbour County, VA in 1850. William Henry Harrison is the first Daugherty and his brother Jacob A. joins him between 1850-1852.
