Luce, private New Jersey Line In the army of the United States during the Revolutionary War. Inscribed on the Roll of Virginia at the rate of 8 Dollars per month, to commence on the 1st of May 1818. Certificate of Pension issued the 13th of Oct. 1818 and delivered to the applicant at Washington City. Arrears to 4th of Sept 1818 4 mo 33.00 Semi-anl. all'ce ending 4th Mar 1819 48.00 [total] $81.06 Revolutionary claim Act 18th March, 1818 Nine Months Berkley Co., VA District and State of Virginia, Berkeley County, ss. On this first day of May 1818, before me the subscriber, ___ Judge of the Superior Court of Law for the said county, personally appeared Peter Marlatt aged 58 years, resident in Berkely County in the said district, who being by me first duly sworn, according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress, entitled ... That he, the said Peter Marlatt enlisted in Reading Town in the state of New Jersey in the company commanded by Captain Henry Luce of the Second Regiment of New Jersey ___ commanded by Col. J. Shreve, that he continued to serve in the said Corps or in the service of the United States, until the fifth day of March 1779, when he was discharged from service in the Town of New Ark, state of New Jersey, that he was in the battles of Long Island, of Cuckles Town on Staten Island, of Millstone, __ the Jersey and Battle of Monmouth and that he is in reduced circumstances and stands in need of the assistance of his county for support; and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services. ... Virgina to wit at a court continued and held for Berkely County the 11th day of July 1820 On this 11th day of July 1820 personally appeared in open Court being a court of record, Peter Marlate aged about sixty five years resident in the said county who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath declare that he Served in the Revolutionary Was as follows to wit as a private Soldier in Captains Luce's Company in the 2nd Regiment of the New jersey line commanded by Col. Israel Cheves that he made his original declaration on the 1 day of May 1818 and obtained a pension certificate numbered 3543 and the said Marlatt doth moreover solemnly swear that he was a resident Citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that he has not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of his property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to ____ it as to bring himself to within the provision of an act of congress entitled "An act to provide for certain person engaged in the late naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War" passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that he has not nor has any person in trust for him any property or securities contracts or debts due to him nor has he any income other than what is contained in the Schedule hereunto affixed and by him subscribed the said Marlatt further declares that he is a farmer and day laborer and from his age of ___ infirmaries that he is unable to support himself - his family consist of his wife Jane aged about 58 years, a son named Jacob aged about twelve years, a Daughter named Elizabeth aged about nine years all of whom are unable to contribute much towards their support accept his son Jacob who ___ unable to support himself is of benefit in the support of the family. Sworn to and declared to be true on the 11th day of July 1820 Before the court aforesaid.
