This is Nimrod Long, married Roasanna "Rosa" Coleman Foster on 17 Jan 1808 in Nelson Co. Nimrod died in Logan Co., KY in 1815.) Description: 5 ft., 11 3/4 inches tall, eyes grey, hair brown, fair complexion, age 31, b. Virginia. Enlisted June 7, 1808, by whom Capt. Long, period 5 years. Remarks: Monthly Return Sept. 30, Dec 31/08, and Jany 24/09 present. G. O. Camp Washington March 3/10, transferred to Capt Nicholas Co. Regtl Order July 20/10 (Capt. Nicholas Co.) present. Orders Sept. 19/10, Tried by Court Martial Neglect of Duty, acquitted. Again Sept. 23/10: disobedience of orders. To be reduced to a private. Pardoned. Again Oct. 12/10. Conduct unbecoming a N. C. officer. Acquitted. Capt. Walter H. Overton's Co. Book 213. 7th U. S. Inf., appointed Sergeant June 7/08, reduced Oct. 31/12, and promoted to Sergeant Jany 1/13. Discharged June 6/13. Reenlisted by Captain Overton, at Fort Claiborne, Sept. 18/13 for the war, aged 37 years. Appointed Sergeant Sept. 18/13. Discharged at Fort Claiborne, La, May 31/15, term expired. See pension case. (2) No. 6547 Watts, William W. Va, App. for Appointment as Subaltern. Recommended Nimrod Long. (It appears that this promotion never went through.) (3) No. 1424 Watts, William W. Sergt, Sergt Major, 8th Infantry, Co. F, Capt. L. Austin (I believe this is Loring Austin of Massachusetts.) Enlisted Mar 11 or 12, 1817, by whom Col. Nicholas, term 5 years. I. R. April 30 & S.A.M.R. June 30/17 present, promoted Sergeant Maj 11/17. I. R. Capt Young's Co. 'D' Aug 31/17 present joining by transfer from Capt. Austin's Co. July 10/17. S.A.M.R. June 30/19 present. I. R. N. C. Staff Oct. 31/19 Serg't Major present, promoted from sergeant Sept. 4/19. I. R. Dec 31/19 discharged Nov. 15/19 on Surgeon's Certificate. U. S. Inf., Discharged 1817 Class Inv., Application No. 18820 Additional Comments: William W. Watts enlisted in either Berkeley or Shenandoah counties. This was the recruiting area of Nimrod Long. He married Nancy Ware 19 Aug 1797 in Berkeley Co. His last known whereabouts was Bardstown, Kentucky. His place of death is currently unknown. Arkansas Co., Arkansas -- Land Warrant for 160 acres to William W. Watts on April 16, 1821 for his service in Capt. Walter Overton's Co. of the 7th Infantry Regiment (War of 1812). Pension Request Bairdstown Ky 24 Jany 1836 Sirs Enclosed you will receive my discharge and certificates. One From the Legion of the 8th Regiment and one from Major Carey Nicholas paymaster; these papers I have once sent to the War Department pension office with a hope that my long service, Wounds received at the Battle of Recovery & at Lowery's defeat would have Entitled me to a pension from my Government. But instead of a pension my papers were returned because I could not produce Certificates of the wounds I had received in defense of my country. If I neglected to get Certificates the Records of the War department will show the term of my service & my old Officers some of which are yet living & some have died Gloriously fiting (sic) the Battles of their Country as the –?– Z M Pike, Wayne Hamtramack, Wilkinson Brock Sedgwick & other. Genl Gibson can perhaps Testify on my Conduct etc Who is now at the City – I hope Dr. Lee York (sp?) Will lay my case before the Honorable Congress who I hope will make some –?– for me and not suffer me to be forced to beg the scanty pittances that will support life after serving my country faithfully thirty six years in War in abst??
