Triplett March, 18, 1856 Joseph Johnson Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia: To all to whom these presents shall come Greetings: Know YE, That in conformity with a survey made on the twenty ninth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and fifty four by Virtue of Land Office Treasury Warrant No.21,418 there is granted by the Commonwealth, unto Samuel C. Miller a certain Tract or Parcel of Land containing one hundred acres, lying in Braxton county,on both sides of Elk river, adjoining a survey owned by said Miller and Robert Miller, and bounded as follows: Viz, Beginning at two spruce pines on the south bank of said river near the head of twin islands, Thence down said river binding on the same, N 49 1/2 degrees E 50 poles to a gum on the bank of said river; N79 degrees E 78 poles to a chestnut and chestnut oak on a cliff S 57 degrees W 92 poles to a dogwood and black oak S 23 W 126 poles to a black oak & poplar S38 1/2 degrees E 52 poles to 2 beeches, crossing Big Run a short distance above its mouth S72E32 poles to a poplar & hickory N22 degrees 32 poles (crossing the river at 14 poles) 64 poles to a large rock on the end John's Hill.N40 1/2 W 22 poles to a maple N 18 degrees E 38 poles to a sugar N43 E 80 poles to two beeches on the lower point of the island called for as near the beginning N22 degrees W 36 poles crossing Elk River, to the beginning with its appurtenances.
