Samuels Mar 11, 1856 Joseph Johnson Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia: To all to whom these presents shall come Greetings: Know YE,That in conformity with a survey made on the twenty fourth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and fifty four by Virtue of Land Office Treasury Warrant No.21,284 there is granted by the Commonwealth, unto John Phares a certain Tract or Parcel of Land containing seventy five acres, lying in Braxton county,on the South side of the right hand fork of ValleyRiver and adjoining a seventy five acre survey owned by Said Phares & onwhich he now resides, bounded as follows; Viz, beginning at a beech on a hillside at or near where a line of a survey made for Walter Cool strikes said Phares' said 75 acre survey, Thence running up the hill with a line of said Cool's said survey S73 and a half W42 poles to a beech, a corner to said Cools survey & thence with the same bearing 25 poles to a sugar N29 and a half W169 poles to a sugar hickory N89degrees E113 poles to a stone & white oak stump on the bank of a run near said Phares house, said white oak stump being a corner of a survey made for Christian Bickle, thence with the line of said Bickles said survey S15 E99 poles to the beginning, with its appurtenances. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said Tract or Parcel of Land, with its appurtenances, to the said James Wood and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said, Joseph Johnson, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the Lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed, at Richmond, on the first day of Oct in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, and of the Commonwealth, the eightieth.
