Triplett Mar. 18, 1856 Joseph Johnson Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia: To all to whom these presents shall come Greetings: Know YE,That in conformity with a survey made on the twenty eighth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and fifty four by Virtue of Land Office Treasury Warrant No.21,284 there is granted by the Commonwealth, unto James Wood a certain Tract or Parcel of Land containing seventeen acres, lying in Braxton county, on Elk River, adjoining a survey of Z. Woods, abounded as follows Viz:Beginning at a black oak on the North bank of Elk River, thence down said river & binding on the same S81W20 poles to a locust N47W34 poles to a dogwood and water birch, N18W34 poles to a large oak on the edge of the river, N12E44 poles to a chestnut & locust opposite an island, N55E60 poles to a rock on the rivers edge opposite the lower end of the aforesaid island, thence out from Said river S47 degrees E6 poles to a birch S35W104 poles to a birch, S36E50 poles to a chestnut, near where Z. Woods Black oak corner stood, N50E60 poles to (a) poplar birch, a corner to Z. Woods survey & with a line of same N71 E32 poles to (a) spanish oak on said line thence down river binding on this same S48W20 poles to a spruce pine S76W16 poles to a spruce, S30W114 poles to the beginning, with its appurtenances. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said Tract or Parcel of Land, with its appurtenances, to the said James Wood and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said, Joseph Johnson, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the Lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed, at Richmond, on the first day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, and of the Commonwealth, the eightieth.
