All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/wv/wvfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Janet King JPerdue192@aol.com March 20, 2009, 7:20 pm Bounty Land Application State of Virginia Cabell County On this 18th day of August A.D. 1855, personally appeared before me a Nortary Public of and for the County and State aforesaid, Susannah Ward aged 58 years, a resident of Cabell County, in the State of Virginia, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Asa Ward deceased, who was a Private in the Company commanded by Captain Pepper, in the (not recollected) Regiment of Virginia Militia commanded by (not recollected) in the War of 1812. That her said husband volunteered at Franklin Courthouse on or about the --day of Sept 1813 for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of six months and was honorably discharged at Norfolk, VA on the -- day of March A.D. 1814 as will appear by the discahrge of her said husband filed in a former declaration for Bounty Land. She further states that she was married to the said Asa Ward on the 5th day of May A. D. 1814 by one John Asher a Baptist Preacher and her name before the said marriage was Susannah Sink that her husband died at Franklin County on the -- day of November A. D. 1848 and that she is now a widow. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional Bounty Land to which she may be entitled under the Act approved 3rd March 1855. She also declares that she has never applied for nor received under this or any other Act of Congress and Bounty Land except the one above mentioned. Susannah (her X mark) Ward We Thomas Ross and Nancy Allen residents of Cabell County in the State of Virginia upon our oaths declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by Susannah Ward in our prescence with whom we are personally acquainted and that we believe, that from the appearance, statement and our acquaintance with the applicant that she is the identical person she represents herself to be, and that we are disinterested witnesses. And we further declare upon our oathes aforesaid that we were personally acquainted with Asa Ward and Susannah Ward during the lifetime of the said Asa Ward husband of the said Susannah Ward, and we know that they lived together as husband and wife, and so regarded and reputed by their neighbors, and that the said Asa Ward is dead, that the said Susannah is still a widow and that we have no interest in this claim. Susannah (her X mark) Ward Additional Comments: Asa Ward was born 1791 in Franklin Co., VA to Daniel and Betsey Ward. He married to Susannah Sink born 1797 to Stephen and Susannah Plyborn Sink. After Asa died in Franklin Co., VA, Susannh took her children and moved to Cabell Co., then VA now WV. She died 6 Nov 1882 in Kenova, Wayne Co., WV.
