The Huntington Advertiser, 16 Dec 1965
Bertha Elva Sheppard – Sixty-eight years old, of Milton Route 3, died 
yesterday at the home of a son, John Sheppard of Milton Route 3. She was born 
Feb. 14, 1897, a daughter of the late Frederick and Malissa Clark Hayes. 
Additional survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Anetta Hatfield and Mrs. 
Verna Blankenship of Culoden; two other sons, Norman Sheppard of Huntington 
and Fred Sheppard of Baltimore; four sisters, Mrs. Gillie Mount of Huntington, 
Mrs. Blanche Martin of Ona and Mrs. Avalee Fields and Mrs. Juanita Nichols of 
Milton; five brothers, Earl Hayes of Proctorville and Verl, Ray, Carl and 
Walter Hayes of Milton, and 27 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The 
body is at the Heck Funeral Home at Milton.
