NICHOLS Cemetery, Lizemores, Clay County, West Virginia Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives February 25, 2002 by Neva Stout Bryant ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Recorded 25 May 1996 by Neva Jane STOUT BRYANT Location: From State Route 16 travel North; turn left at the Lizemores sign onto a paved road. Drive until paved road forks to the left (paved road goes to the grade school) and a dirt road forks to the right. Turn onto the dirt road and drive approximately one-quarter mile to a gas well gate on the right side of the road. Cross over the gate and walk to the cemetery at the top of the hill. Description: The cemetery is located at the top of a hill and consists of approximately one-half to one acre of land. No cemetery records exist, since it is strictly a rural cemetery, but most buried there are NICHOLS, their spouses, children, etc. No one is in charge of the cemetery; in other words, there is no sexton. The land was part of a 440 acre parcel originally owned by Zephaniah NICHOLS, my great-great-great grandfather. Either he or his son William, my great-great grandfather, established the cemetery. The cemetery has a far left section with a few graves, a back section, and then a front section. I recorded the cemetery in that order, starting at the back of each section and going from left to right until I reached the front of each section. There are probably more graves that have disappeared throughout its use these many, many years. Since this is part of my family, I have added notes to indicate parents or spouses if I knew them. ___________________________________________________________________________ Double Headstone: Vernon H.
