In it's day, Orton was a thriving community, with all the amenities of any small town, but now it has been absorbed under the post office designation of Normantown. Driving directions: from US Rtes. 33/119, at Normantown, turn south on Gassaway Rd. Follow the road as it curves to the right around a little white church, continue approximately another mile. The cemetary will be visible on the left, and may be reached by a dirt road to the left, just past the cemetary. Within the fenced bounds of this cemetary is an ancient "Indian Mound". Though Native Americans might not share my opinion, I find it appropriate that the early settlers chose this site to lay their loved ones to rest. For convenience, I have listed the gravestones alphabetically. My comments on the physical appearance of the stones are contained in brackets. I have attempted to faithfully report the inscriptions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [granite, carved in shape of pulpit with closed book on top] COME YE BLESSED [carved pillars & open gate] ALBERT MAYWOOD SON OF W.B. & LOMA BOGGS BORN AUG. 1ST, 1905 DIED JAN. 13, 1926 AGE 21 YRS 5 MOS. 13 DAYS [italics]O, flower too soon faded [on pedestal] BOGGS [granite, lichen covered] EDWARD WAYNE BOGGS 1882-1885 [italics]At Rest [footstone]E.W.B.
