Cole Lewisburg, WV 1917 p. 215-216 WILLIAM EDGAR DARNELL. Marion and Mary Ann (Church) Darnell were residents of this county, living near Lewisburg at the time William E. Darnell was born, on September 14, 1870. The father was a farmer and died at the age of twenty-six years. The mother, now the wife of A. C. Bivens, is a woman of remarkable business capacity and known for her many kindnesses of heart and good traits of character. W. E. Darnell came to Lewisburg when fourteen years of age, and after acquiring a comon school education, learned the tinner's trade, an ocupation he has succesfully followed since the year 1886. He probably has tinned more roofs in Lewisburg and vicinity than any other tinner now living in the county. He built his house in 1905 and bought his shop in 1915. On Wednesday, December 19, 1894, Mr. Darnell married Miss Maggie Hayes, and from this union were born: Mary Edgar, now the wife of C. J. Smith; Grace Olga and Lawrence. His wife died February 25, 1903, and he then married Miss Irene Hayes, on Thursday, October 6, 1904, and to this union were born two children, Marion and Earl. it was from both marriages his interesting family of children came. All are members of the Old Stone church in Lewisburg, and the father is past master of Greenbrier Lodge, No.42.
