Transcribed and submitted by Ed Johnson, , 1998. ************************************************************************** RICHARD HILL GILLILAN - owner and farmer of 668 acres of good farming land, near Frankford, in Falling Spring district, was here born September 14, 1814. His grandfather was one of the pioneers of this vicinity, coming from Augusta county, Virginia, where he was born March 16, 1749, and settling upon and entering 400 acres of land near the Falling Spring. It is said he brought the first wagon to the county, and he used to take his produce to Philadelphia for a market. He married Lydia ARMSTRONG, who died July 22, 1817, and he died February 14, 1844. Their son George R. was father of Richard H. and was born in Falling Spring District, February 15, 1794, served in the 1812 war, married Martha HILL, and died in Lafayette county, Missouri, August 1, 1854. Martha HILL was born on Hills Creek, in Pocahontas County, January 24, 1795, and she died in Lafayette County Missouri, January 8, 1877. The first wife of Richard H. GILLILAN, Mary, daughter of John and Hannah (CRUIKSHANKS) HANDLEY, was born in this district, May 13, 1818. She became the wife of Richard H. GILLILAN July 5, 1838, and their children are recorded: Martha Jane, born July 12, 1840, married Cyrus H. McCLUNG, and lives at Frankford; Charles William, born May 4, 1843, whose sketch has just been given; Hannah Virginia, born April 24, 1846, married Wallace BEARD, and lives in Pocahontas County; Sarah, born November 25, 1848, married John STUART, and lives in Butler, Kansas. John HANDLEY was born in this district, his wife was born in Augusta County, Virginia; he died in this district in 1823, and her death was here in 1857. Mary, wife of Mr. GILLILAN, died at Frankford January 22, 1878, and he is again married. His wife is Sallie A. McCLONTOC (BEARD), and they were wedded near Lewisburg, November 24, 1881.
