Submitted by Alison Martin, , 1999. ************************************************************************** John Louellen Clowser was born March 14 1867 at Clowser Gap, Frederick County, Virgnia. He was the son of Andrew Jackson and Sarah Moss Clowser. In the early 1870's, Andrew left Clowser Gap with his wife Sarah and sons, Henry John, David and Andrew, Jr. and settled in Cederville, Gilmer County, West Virginia. John married Sarah Virginia McCoy in 1886 while living in Cedarville. To this union were born Roy T. Clowser, William Jackson Clowser, Grace Clowser Gumm, Flodie Clowser Spinks, Ora Clowser McCoy, and Gilbert Clowser. Early in their marriage they moved to Lobelia, Pocohonatas County, West Virginia. Sometime during the early 1920's, John purchased a 400 acre tract of land from Walter Hevner at Hughart, Greenbrier County, West Virginia. This property is located on what is now known as the Gilkerson Road. In 1928, son William Jackson and his wife Lana Mowery Clowser moved to Richwood, Nicholas County, West Virginia, to assist in the operation of the farm. They brought with them daughters Nellie, Mary, Freda and a son Willard. While at the farm, another son, William Alford, was born. Their sixth child, Charlotte Ann, was born in 1936 after leaving the family farm. John continued to operate the farm until 1938. After that time he and sarah lived with each of their children, alternately. During a visit with their daughter Ora Clowser McCoy in Hillsboro, Pocohontas County, West Virginia. Sarah had a stroke and died on July 15, 1940. John continued to live with his children and grandchildren. He fell and broke his hip at age 90. He never regained his health and died in Parkersburg, West Virginia on September 1, 1957. He and Sarah are buried at the End of Trail Cemetary, Clintonville, Greenbrier County, West Virginia.
