Samuel Lapsley, of Col. Nathaniel Gist's Virginia Regiment. In Febraury, 1777, Gist's Regiment joined General George Washington's Army at Morristown, New Jersey and was designated the Eighth Regiment of the Continental Line. John HANNA was promoted to Argent and served under Col. Girst with the Army of Gen. Washington almost three years, through a winter at Valley Forge. He was in the battle of Monmouth, 1778, and in 1779 to the relief of Charlestown, South Carolina, where May 12, 1780, with all American troops, he was captured by the enemy. John HANNA was confined on a British prison ship until the end of hostilities.
