Between Andrew Boggs and Susanna, his wife, of the County of Greenbrier in the state of Virginia of the one part and James Bowen of the County and State aforesaid Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of two shillings lawful money of Virginia to the said Andrew Boggs and his wife in hand paid by the said James Bowen the receipt whereof so hereby acknowledge hath bargained and sold and by these presented do grant, bargain & sell into the said James Bowen a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county of Greenbrier and State of Virginia containing by division or survey one hundred thirty four and one fourth acres the same being part of a tract of land of 450 acres surveyed for the heirs of Anthony Bowen, dec. at the mouth of Spring creek, adjoin a part of said tract belonging to said James Bowen and two divisions laid for Alexander Boggs and is bounded as Andrew Boggs, Susanna Boggs in father's will. [Transcribed and submitted by Marilyn Merritt ] ******************************************************************** Susannah Boggs Greenbrier County Deed Bk3 p. 130-132 1804 This indenture made this 9th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three between Andrew Boggs and Sarah, his wife, of the County of Greenbrier in the state of Virginia of the one part and James Bowens of the County and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of two shillings lawful money of Virginia to the said Andrew Boggs and his wife in hand paid by the said James Bowen the receipt whereof they so hereby acknowledge hath bargain and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell into the said James Bowen a certain tract or parcel of lying and being in the county of Greenbrier and State of Virginia containing by division or survey one hundred thirty four and one fourth acres the same being part of a tract of land of 450 acres surveyed for the heirs of Atahony Bowen, dec. at the mouth of Spring Creek adjoin a part of said tract belonging to said James Bowens and two divisions laid for Alexander Boggs and is bounded as followeth to wit beginning at a hickory and ash corner to Alexander Boggs division of 77 3/4 acres and on a line of his 100 1/4 acre division and with the same S77W27 poles to 2 hickory and dogwood bushes in the end of a lane near the head of a spring and thence leaving Boggs division and with Bowens tbrough the lane S67W38 poles to a white oak on a nole near a white oak comer to said Alexander Boggs and thence S13W168 poles to a black oak and hickory by a ? and S1OE34 poles to a hickory by a fence and S46E50 poles to a white oak on the patent fine by William Bors and N65E70 poles to two white oaks and N158E74 poles to a white oak and N67E80 poles to two gunnzona (sp?) hillside corn to Alexander Boggs 77 3/4 acre division and with the same NI2W68 poles to a Spanish oak on a hill side and N35WI2 poles to sinall (sp?) white oak and back on the point of a ridge and N14W37 poles to a large white one on hill side N36E32 poles to the beginning with all its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances to the said James Bowen, his heirs and assigns and only these presents grant bargain sell made over and convey unto the said Jwnes Bowen all our right title claim and interest to and of the above mentioned tract or parcel of land and will warrant and forever defend the name against any other person or persons laying any right or claim thereto whatsoever in witnesses whereof we have hereunto set our hand and seals this day and year above written.
