Bowen of the County &.State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said A. Bowen for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar, of lawful money of Virginia to him the said Bowen in hand will & truly paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said A. Bowen hath granted, bargained and sold & by the presents doth grant, bargain & sell unto the said Moses M. Bowenp his heirs & assigns my right of the plantation now occupied by the s aid Moses M. Bowen on the Southeast Side of Greenbrier River containing 224 acres. And the aforesaid Anthony Bowen for him-self and his heirs his right of the aforesaid plantation with the appurtinces unto the said Moses M. Bowen & his heirs doth hereby warrant & defend & given under my hand and seal this day and date above written. Anthony Bowen [Transcribed and submitted by Marilyn Merritt ] ******************************************************************** Anthony Bowen Greenbrier County Deed Bk lO p.416-417 1827 This indenture made and entered into this 27th day of June 1827 between James Kincaid sheriff of Greenbrier County of the one part and John D, Littlepage of the County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that whereas Anthony Bowen on the 14th day of April 1827 being on custody of Jailor of Greenbrier by virtue of a capies adsatis faciend on the day and year last above mentioned rendered his schedule and took the oath of an insolvent debtor in which schedule he rendered his interest in 3000 acres of land lying and being in the County of Greenbrier and thereupon executed to said James Kincaid, sheriff, as aforesaid a deed according to the act of General Assembly in such cases made and provided for his said interest in the tract of land aforesaid. And whereas the said James Kincaid, sheriff, as aforesaid within 60 days after the taking of said deed by the said Anthony Bowen did sell the said tract of land or such interest therein and the said Bowen held to be applied towards the discharge of said execution in favor of the said John D. Littlepage and whereas the said John D. Littlepage at the sale of said land by virtue of said transfer from said Bowen became the purchaser for the sum of $50. Now this indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the premises and in further consideration of $1 to the said James Kincaid, sheriff, as aforesaid by the said John D. Littlepage in hand paid at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged to the said James Kincaid sheriff as aforesaid have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the said John D. Littlepage, his heirs, exer; adm; and assigns forever all, the right title interest and. claim of the said Anthony Bowen in and to the said tract of 3000 acres lying and being in the county of Greenbrier between Greenbrier River and Anthony's Creek as was vested in him the said James Kincaid, sheriff, as aforesaid doth hereby covenant to defend, the claim title and interest in and to the said tract of land hereby conveyed, free from the claim or title of any person or persons claiming title under him the said James Kincaid, sheriff as aforesaid and non other. June Term 1827 signed James Kincaid [Transcribed and submitted by Marilyn Merritt ] ******************************************************************** Anthony Bowen Greenbrier County Deed Bk 10 p.606 1827 This indenture made the 22nd day of October in the year 1827 between Anthony Bowen of the county of Greenbrier of the one part and Archibald M. Bowen of the county aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Anthony Bowen for and consideration of one years work to him the said Anthony Bowen hath granted, bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said Archibald M. Bowen his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land containing 158 acres situated in the county of Greenbrier on the south side of Greenbrier River adjoining the land of John Walkup and Andrew Hamilton, dec. and bound as followeth: Beginning at two white oaks on a flat scarpa clift of rocks to the old survey thence with the same SI6WI68 poles passing a gum and white oak comer to said Walkup at 80 poles and running with Walkup's line to a gum and pine comer to Walkup SI7WI14 poles to three white oaks in a flat by a road corner to said Hamilton thence with the same N66E86 poles to a red oak and white oak near a run in the edge of some brush thence leaving the same N29E306 poles crossing said run to a white oak and two red oaks on a flat ridge near a rim and thence S77WI48 poles crossing a run to the beginning and the aforesaid Anthony Bowen for himself and his heirs the aforesaid tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances unto the said Archibald M.Bowen and his heirs doth hereby warrant and defend against all and every person or persons claiming under or from him or his heirs in witnesses whereof the said Anthy Bowen to these presents hath set his hand and seal the day and year first aforesaid.
