D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, John Forehand aged fifty nine years, a resident of Monroe County in the State of Virginia who being sworn according to law declares that he is the identical John Forehand who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain Isaac T. Preston in the 35th Regiment of U. S. Infantry, commanded by Colonel Little in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812, that he enlisted at Richmond Virginia on or about the 2nd day of August A. D. one thousand eight hundred and thirteen for the term of twelve months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of twelve months, and was honorably discharged at Craney Island , Va. on the 2nd day of August one thousand eight hundred and fourteen as will appear by his original certificate of discharge herewith presented or by the muster rolls of said Company. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the "act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States" paper September 28th 1850. his John X Forehand mark Sworn to and subscribed before me this day and year above written. C. ***************************************************** 1855 Bounty Land Warrant Application of John Forehand State of Virginia} County of Monroe} On this 14th day of May A. D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County aforesaid John Forehand aged about sixty five years, a resident of Greenbrier County in the State of Virginia lately of Monroe County Virginia, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical John Forehand who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain _____Hoffman in the ____ Regiment of Virginia Militia Commanded by (as well as he recollects) James McDowell in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812 for the term of _____months and continued in actual service for fourteen days_ that he has heretofore made application for bounty land under the act of September 28 1850 and received a land warrant (No. _ not now recollected) for eight acres which he has since legally disposed of, and can not now return. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act approved the 3rd day of March 1855. D. eighteen hundred and seventy-seven personally before me, Phares B. Harrah Notary Public in and for the County and State, aforesaid, Mary Foran [FORREN], aged Eighty-two years, a resident of Blue Sulphur Springs, County of Greenbrier, State of West Virginia, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of John Foran [FORREN], who served the full period of sixty days in the military service of the United States in the War of 1812, and who was the identical John Foran who [enlisted] in Captain [Isaac T. Preston's] Company, [35th] Regiment, [blank] Brigade, [blank] Division, at [Staunton, VA], on the [2nd] day of [August], [1813]; that she was married under the name of Mary Agner to said John Foran, on the 27th day of December, A. D. 1814, by G. A. Baxter, Clergyman, at Lexington, Rockbridge Co., Virginia, there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that her said husband died at Fort Spring, Greenbrier Co., WVa, on the 17th day of July, 1861, and that she has not remarried since his death; that at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did she or her said husband adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government, giving them aid or comfort, or exercised the functions of any office whatever under any authority, or pretended authority, in hostility to the United States; that she will support the Constitution of the United States; that she is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act; that she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension rolls of the United States, under the provisions of the act approved February 14, 1871, and hereby constitutes and appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, Gilmore & Co. of Washington, D. C. [next line illegible] her post office is at Blue Sulphur Springs, County of Greenbrier, State of West Virginia; that her domicile or place of abode is in Blue Sulphur District, Greenbrier Co. Harrah, Notary Public Official Certificate in regard to Witnesses: In the matter of the application of Mary Foran of Greenbrier County, State of West Virginia, to be enrolled as a Pensioner under the act of February 14, 1871, in which cause Abraham Coffman & Joseph A. Perkins are witnesses to testify to the loyalty of said claimant. I hereby certify that, after a careful investigation, I am convinced that they men of undoubted good character for truth and veracity, and that their statements in the affidavit referred to are worthy of full faith and credit. Spotts, Clerk of the County Court in and for the aforesaid County and State, do certify that Pharis B. Harrah, Esq. who hath signed his name to the foregoing declaration; affidavit & dated this 16th day of August 1877, was at this time of so doing a Notary Public in and for said County and State, duly commissioned and sworn, and that all of his official acts are entitled to full faith and credit, and that his signature that appears to be genuine. In witness whereof I have hereunto affixed the seal of the said county court and signed my name as Clerk thereof on the 20th day of August 1877 and in the 15th year of the State of West Virginia. State of West Virginia County of Greenbrier On this 15th day of July A.D. 1878. before me, the undersigned, a Notary Public duly authorized by law to administer oaths within and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared Mary Foran, aged [blank] years, a resident of Blue Sulphur Springs in the County of Greenbrier, and State of West Virginia, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the identical Mary Foran, widow of John Foran who was a Soldier in the Company commanded by Captain Daniel Huffman in the [blank] Regiment of [blank] commanded by [blank] in the War of 1812-1815, that he volunteered at Lexington, Rockbridge Co., Va on or about the [blank] day of [blank], A.D. 1812 for the term of one year, and continued in actual service in said War for the term of fourteen days; and was honorably discharged at [blank] on the [blank] day of [blank] AD 18__. Z. A. Sandige N. P. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which she may be entitled under the act approved Mch. 3" 1855. She also declares that she has not received a Warrant for Bounty Land under this or any other Act of Congress, nor made any other application therefor. (Soldier re'cd. 80 acres.) She hereby appoints Gilmore & Co., of Washington, D. C., her true and lawful Attorneys, with power of substitution, to prosecute this her claim for Land, to receive the Certificate or Warrant when issued, and to do all other acts necessary and proper in the premises. Sandige ***************************************************** War of 1812 Land Warrant Application - 1879 - Mary FORAN Form of a Declaration to be made by the widow of a deceased Person who has had a land warrant and desires another State of West Virginia County of Greenbrier On this 28 day of August, AD 1879, personally appeared before me, Z. A. Sandige N. P. within and for the County and State aforesaid, Mary Foran, aged Eighty Three years, a resident of Blue Sulphur Springs, in the State of W.Va. who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of John Foran alias John Forehand, deceased, who was a [private] in the company commanded by Captain Hoffman, in the 35th Regiment of the U. S. Inf., commanded by [blank], in the War 1812, she now draws a Pension & refers to the evidence filed in that claim cert. 25648. She further states that she was married to the said John Foran in Rockbridge Co. on the [ ] day of December A. D. 1814, by one George Baxter, a Clergyman, and that her name before said marriage was Mary Egnor; that her said husband died in Greenbrier County on the [ ] day of July A. D. 1861, and that she is now a widow. She further declares that she has heretofore made application for bounty land under the act approved [blank] and obtained a land warrant for 80 acres No. _______. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining bounty land to which she may be entitled under the act approved [blank]. She also declares that she has not received or applied for bounty land under this or any other act of Congress, except as above mentioned. I hereby authorize and empower Gilmore & Co. Washington, D. C., my attorney, to prosecute this my claim, to receive any certificate or warrant which may be issued in my name, receipt for the same, and receive any and all moneys due thereon, giving unto [blank] full power to endorse my name on said certificate or warrant, and to do any other act in my name necessary to the ful and final settlement of the claim. her (Signature of Claimant), Mary X Foran mark Attest: Robert B.
