The family had gone to visit Mr. BOBBITT's father, Mr. Floyd P. BOBBITT, near Williamsburg, and it is not known how the fire originated. Neighbors discovered the flames and while they could not save the house, managed to carry out most of Mr. BOBBITT's household goods. 108 YEARS OLD Kanawha county claims the oldest person in West Virginia and probably the oldest in the United States. He is James SUTTON, of near St. Albans who has attained the age of 108 years, and who is sufficiently active yet to visit friends. He is an entertaining talker, and tells vivid stories of the Mexican war as well as two Indian campaigns. He was a captive of Indians for two years and a half, he says, and had really become well accustomed to the redskins' methods when he made his escape. Mr. SUTTON was born in 1806 in Lewisburg, Greenbrier county, then in the State of Virginia. He was a carpenter for many years and was engaged in that trade until he was 100 years old. From THE MONROE WATCHMAN, Thursday, December 9, 1909: Mrs. Susan CURRY, of Irish Corner, widow of the late Sam CURRY, was taken to the home for incurables at Huntington on No. 1, Thanksgiving night. Her mind had been failing for several years, and she was haunted with the idea that some persons had determined to kill her and were hiding nearby for that purpose. In view of her age (some 76 years) she was deemed incurable. She was Miss HALLOWELL before her marriage. -- W. Va.
