FARREN reportedly had left home at 6 a.m. on his way to work at Layland where he was employed as a bookkeeper at the New River and Pocahontas Consolidated Coal Co. Dr. Lee B. TODD, acting coroner, said death was caused by a cornary thrombosis. State Police were called to the scene to investigate the death, and a coroner's jury met at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, East Rainelle, at 11 a.m. today. FARREN had been a patient of Dr. TODD's for the past three years, and had a heart condition, the physician reported. The lights on FARREN's car were still on, and he apparently had put on the brakes before dying. His car skidded some on the slippery hill, but no tracks were found in the snow around the vehicle to show he had tried to get out, or that anyone had been around the vehicle. Born July 16, 1898, at Smoot, he was a son of John R. FARREN and the late Elizabeth HOLIDAY FARREN. He was a member of the Smoot Baptist Church, the Quinwood Lodge No. 161, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the Order of Eastern Star No. 92 of Quinwood, the Mount Hope Commandery No. 22, Knights Templar, Sewell Chapter No. 24, Rural Arch Mason, Greenbrier Valley Shrine Club the Beni Kedem Temple of Charleston, and was a past governor of Ruritans at Smoot. Survivors include his wife, Stella; five daughters, Mrs. Margaret CARROLL of Layland, Mrs. Mary E. MEEHAN of Elyria, Ohio, Mrs. Irene RODGERS of Minden, and Mrs. Shirley DODRILL, and Miss Nancy FARREN, both of Smoot; six sons John William, Joseph, both of Elyria Ohio, S. Sgt. Charles E., stationed with the Air Force in Eglin, Fla., James E., of Danville, Ill., Robert and Aleck FARREN, both of Smoot; one sister, Mrs. Belle FARREN of Smoot; one brother Frank FARREN of Smoot; and 17 grandchildren.
