Mr. Matheny was born Feb. 24, 1884 at Sweet Springs, WV, a son of the late Amos Joseph and Anetta Armentrout Matheny. He was a retired railroad telegraph operator. Surviving are four sons, Robert Earl Matheny, Luning, Nevada; Jack Edward Matheny, Richmond, Walter Carroll Matheny, Hebron, Ind., and Harry Meredith Matheny, Roseville, Calif; five daughters, Mrs. June Anetta Carter, Lynchburg, Miss Ethel Jane Matheny, Washington, D.C., Mrs. Edith V. Wachtman, Rockville, MD, Mrs. Nellie Warren Waddle, Kingsport, TN and Mrs. Shirley M. Case, Alleghany; two sisters, Mrs. Virgie Mundy, Hinton, WV and Mrs. Nellie Mitchell, Alleghany; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at the Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, WV. ALSO: Samuel Robert Matheny, age 94, of Alleghany, VA died Tuesday, June 13, at his home follwing a short illness. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery at White Sulphur Springs.
