OBIT:  14 June 1978, Alleghany-Samuel Robert Matheny, 94, of 
Alleghany, died Tuesday night at his home following a short illness. 
Mr. Matheny was born Feb. 24, 1884 at Sweet Springs, WV, a son of the 
late Amos Joseph and Anetta Armentrout Matheny.  He was a retired 
railroad telegraph operator.
  Surviving are four sons, Robert Earl Matheny, Luning, Nevada; Jack 
Edward Matheny, Richmond, Walter Carroll Matheny, Hebron, Ind., and 
Harry Meredith Matheny, Roseville, Calif; five daughters, Mrs. June 
Anetta Carter, Lynchburg, Miss Ethel Jane Matheny, Washington, D.C., 
Mrs. Edith V. Wachtman, Rockville, MD, Mrs. Nellie Warren Waddle, 
Kingsport, TN and Mrs. Shirley M. Case, Alleghany; two sisters, Mrs. 
Virgie Mundy, Hinton, WV and Mrs. Nellie Mitchell, Alleghany; 17 
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
  Funeral arrangements are incomplete.  The body is at the Shanklin 
Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, WV.

ALSO:  Samuel Robert Matheny, age 94, of Alleghany, VA died Tuesday, 
June 13, at his home follwing a short illness.
  Born Feb. 24, 1884, at Sweet Springs, he was a son of the late James 
Joseph and Anetta Armentrout Matheny.
  Survivors include four sons, Robert Earl of Luning, Nev., Jack Edwin 
of Richmond, VA, Walter Carroll of Hebron, Ind. and  Harry Meredith 
Matheny of Rosedale, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. June Anetta Carter 
of Lynchburg, VA, Miss Ethel Jane Matheny of Washington, D.C., Mrs. 
Edith V. Watchman of Rockville, MD, Mrs. Nellie Warren Waddle of 
Kingsport, TN and Mrs. Shirley M. Case of Alleghany; two sisters, Mrs. 
Virgie Mundy of Hinton and Mrs. Nellie Mitchell of Alleghany; 17 
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
  Mr. Matheny was a retired railway telegrapher operator.
  Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, in Shanklin 
Funeral Home Chapel at White Sulphur Springs.  Burial was at Hillcrest 
Cemetery at White
Sulphur Springs.
