Halstead: now the oldest settler living in Fairview, was born in Washington County, Pa., in 1799. Migrated to then New Manchester in 1820, where he has resided ever since. On the fifth of October, same year, was united in marriage to Miss Jane Armstrong. By her he had three children. In the year 1828, he was called to mourn the death of his wife. He remained a widower until the fall of 1830, when he was married to Miss Catherine Nixon, who bore him seven children. He learned the cabinet business in his youth, and now, although somewhat infirm with accumulation of years, still pursues the trade that his youthful ambition suggested.
