Biographical Sketches of Hancock County: John Lowary: was born in Washington County, Pa., in 1800. He was married to Jane Proudfoot. Their union resulted in five children, two of which are living. His companion died in 1837. He then married Miss Sarah Hibbets. They reared a family of six children. In 1855, they moved to Columbiana County, Ohio, where they remained until in 1870, they then moved and settled in Hancock County, West Virginia, where they are now living. He is postmaster at Oak Run Post Office. He served as captain and then colonel in the militia. His wife died in 1875.
