It may be freely copied, but may not be sold. ******************************************************************* COLONEL GEORGE STEWART was born in 1735, the son of George and Jean Stewart. His parents settled in Pequa Creek, Leacock Township, Lancaster County, PA about 1740. His sister, Esther was born in 1739 and died in Lancaster County in 1803. Colonel George Enlisted in 1776 in Lancester County, PA. He was 2nd Major in Robert Buyers' 1st Co. of the 5th Battalion August 1776, Lt. Col. in John Boyd's Battalion 1777, and Colonel of the 1st Battalion of Lancaster Co. Malitia in 1780. After the War he moved to Westmoreland Co,. PA. In 1790 he moved to the north branch of Tomlinson Run. He purchased 50 acres of land there from Joseph Campbell. He married first, Sarah Whitehill in Lancaster Co., March 13, 1760. Their children were George b. 1761, John b. 1763, David b. 1765, Joseph b. 1767, Robert b. 1769, and Charles b. 1772. Sarah died on May 12, 1778. He then married Susanna Wilson in Lancaster County on April 22, 1779. Their children were: William b. 1782 , Samuel b. 1780, Mary b. 1784, Esther b. 1785, James Mercer b. 1787, and Benjamin b. 1785 Colonel George died on September 9, 1801 in Grant District, Hancock Co., WV. Susanna died on May 4, 1843. Part of Stewart Farms is still in the family today.
