W.B. Stewart (Taken from the book on Toronto, Ohio) The subject of this sketch was born on a farm near Fairview, Hancock County, W. Va., in 1855. He received a very limited education in the common free schools of Hancock county. At the age of 24 he left the farm and learned the carpenter trade. In 1882 he was married to Miss Jennie E. Nicholson, of East Liverpool, O. Mr. Stewart entered the profession of teaching in 1884, and taught 12 years in the district and graded schools of Hancock Co. He was principal of Fairview schools in 1887, and county superintendent of schools for Hancock Co. during 1889-90. He was elected principal of the Fosterville school in the North End in '95, and is now serving his third year in that capacity. Mr. S. is a successful teacher and a skilful carpenter. He is an enthusiastic worker, a patriotic citizen and a exemplary Christian. He is a self-made man.
