Interment will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery. HARRY E. HALL, Sr. Virginia Beach, VA-- Harry E. Hall, Sr., 81, of Virginia Beach, formerly of East Liverpool, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Clingon, Miss., where he was living with his daughter. He was born in Newell March 30, 1916, a son of the late Luther and Elizabeth Tucker Hall. While living in East Liverpool, he was employed at the former Crucible Steel Co. He was employed by the Norfolk-Western Railroad Co. until retirement. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Virginia Beach. His wife, Helen Boswell Hall, died June 20, 1990. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Buzzard, and a brother, Paul Hall. He is furvived by his daughter, Pris Howes of Clinton; two sons, Eddie Hall Jr. and John Hall of Virginia Beach; four brothers, William Hall and Norman Hall of East Liverpool, Howard Hall of Lisbon and Richard Hall of Dover, Del.; two sisters, Helen Atkins and Hazel Osborn of East Liverpool; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Hamilton, 84, of Third Avenue, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, at the home of her niece, following a brief illness. she was born in New Cumberland Nov. 23, 1912, a doughter fo the late John and Daisy Hunter Hamilton. she was a graduate of the New Cumberland High School Class of 1931. She retired after 34 years at the former Harker's Pottery. she was a member of the New Cumberland Free Methodist Church where she had served as Sunday school superintendent, a Sunday school teacher, a W.M.S. president, secretary and treasurer and a conference delegate for many years. She had dedicated 13 years to the New Cumberland Senior Center. she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald (Beanie) Hamilton and Kenneth Hamilton. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. David (Donna) Cain of New Cumberland, with whom she resided; and two nephews, John Hamilton of Charlotte, N.C., and Chuck Hamilton of New Cumberland. Box 546, New Cumberland, WV 26047. RALPH E. HEFFNER, SR. East Liverpool, OH-- Ralph E. Heffner Sr., 72, of St. Clair Avenue, died Tuesday, Feb 10, 1998, at City Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Congo, WV, Aug 8, 1925, a son of the late Roy and Nevada Mercer Heffner. An area resident most of his life, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked in maintenance at the Homer Laughlin China Co. for 19 years and retired from Pioneer Pottery after 20 years. He is survived by four sons, Daniel Heffner, Norman Heffner, Ralph Heffner and Steve Heffner of East Liverpool and Mrs. Michael (Vicki) Board of Lisbon; three brothers, Lewis Heffner and Robert Heffner of East Liverpool and Frank "Gene" Heffner of New Cumberland; a sister, Mrs. Julian (Helene) Wilson of New Cumberland; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Heffner, who died in 1994. The Rev. MICHAEL T. HERCEG, SR. New Cumberland, WV-- Michael T. Herceg, Sr., 60, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Weirton Medical Center. He was born May 19, 1937, in Jefferson, PA, son of the late Henry Herceg and Barbara Tomasko Herceg Olenick of Colliers. He was also preced in death by his stepfather, Joseph Olenick. He retired from the mechanical department of the WSX Sheet mill on June 30, 1994, with 40 years of service. He was a Navy veteran. He was past president of the WSX 25-Year Club and a member of the Hancock County Master Gardeners. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Elizabeth Solomon Herceg, whom he married June 29, 1961; a son, Robert Jr., of Coventry, RI; two daughters, Mrs. Everett (Kimberly) Price of Weirton and Beth Anne Herceg of Parkersburg; a brother, Joseph Olenick of Follansbee; and four sisters, Vivian Kosarik and Kathy Olenick Allas, both of Colliers, Mrs Mike (Barbara) Whilco of Wellsburg, and Mrs. Jack (Marjorie) Copenhaver of Follansbee. MARY ELIZABETH HERRON 86, of Fox Nursing Home, formerly of R.D. #1, New Cumberland, passed away July 7, 1997 at East Liverpool City Hospital following a brief illness. she was born January 17, 1911 in Shippingport, PA, a daughter of the late Robert E. & Doris A. (Wright) Hayward. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Campbell S. Herron and a son, Donald Herron. She was a member of the New Manchester Christian Church, Fairview Grange #445 in New Manchester. She was the oldest Grange member in West Virginia, and a member of the Fairview Homemakers Club. She is survived by one son, Charles R. "Bob" Herron of New Cumberland; two daughters, Mary Lou Herron of Worthington, Ohio and Sara Jane Culpepper of Orlando, FL; one brother, Robert Hayward of Los Angeles, CA; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. MARY JANE HERRON New Cumberland, WV-- Services will be held Friday for Mary Jane Herron, 56, of New Cumberland, who died Tuesday, January 20, 1998, at the Weirton Medical Center. She was born in East Liverpool May 30, 1941, a daughter of the late Archibald and Anna Marie Jewell Jones. She was a Protestant. She is survived by her husband, Jehu "Jake" Herron, whom she married in 1967; two sons, John Calvin Jones and Paul Herron of Tennessee; three brothers, Donald Jewell of Freedom, PA, and Kenneth and William Jones of East Liverpool; two sisters, Barbara Cole of Warren, Ohio and Linda Walker of Kansas; and three grandchildren, including John Calvin Jones, Jr. of New Cumberland, whom she raised. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. at the New Cumberland chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Spring Grove Cemetery, East Liverpool. ELIZABETH 'BETTY' HOBBS CHESTER-- Elizabeth "Betty" Hobbs, 81, of Indiana Avenue died Thursday, June 5, 1997, at home after becoming suddenly ill. She was born in New Haven, Conn., April 1, 1916, a daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth Wilkin Blanning. A retired school teacher in Hancock County Schools, she also was a librarian at the Darnegie Public Library. She graduated from Benton Harbor, MI High School and Oberlin College. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, Sunday School teacher, and clerk of Session. She also was a member of the steering committee for Meals on Wheels and served two terms as president. Her husband, Ralph Hobbs, died Aug. 15, 1995. She also was preceded in death bay a brother, Frank Blanning. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Robert K. Hobbs of Hagerstown, Md., and Dr. William R. Hobbs of Charlottesville, Va; a daughter, Mrs Kermit (Betsy) Nordeen of Chesapeake, Ohio; a brother, James R. Blanning of Bristol, Conn.; and three grandchildren. The Rev. House, 94, of the Fox Nursing Home, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 1997, where she has lived for the past 10 years. She was born in Salineville, Sept. 29, 1902, a daughter of the late Michael and Mame Sweeney Gallagher. She had lived most of her life in the Pleasant Heights area of East Liverpool. she had done domestic work for several area physicians. She was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in East Liverpool. she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. House, who died June 28, 1966; and a son, Francis J. House, who died Dec. 3, 1986; a sister, Thelma Brown; and four brothers, James Gallagher, Edward Gallagher, Joseph Gallagher and Thomas Gallagher. she is survived by a son, Edward B. House of East Liverpool; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Householder, 77, of Chessington Circle, a Weirton native and a Weirton Steel Corp. employee before his retirement, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1920, a son of the late Thomas Edward and Georgianna Cousins Householder. He was taken prisoner of war while serving with the Army Air Corps. during World War II. He was a member of Summerville Christian Church. DURWARD S. "DUDE" HURST -New Cumberland--Durward S. "Dude" Hurst, 84, of New Cumberland died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Weirton Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Lynn Camp, WV, March 13, 1913, a son of the late Blaine and Flossie Pearl Digman Hurst. A veteran of the U.S. National Guard, Mr. Hurst was employed as a crane operator with the National Steel before retiring. He was amember of Point Pleasant United Methodist Church and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and a former member of the Odd Fellows. He was preceded in death by a son, Durward Cecil Hurst, who died in 1988; a sister, Erma Ashburn; and an infant brother, Denzel Hurst. He is survived by his wife, Esther R. She was born in Chester, Dec. 21, 1929, a daughter of the late Robert and Irene Reber Faudree. She was a graduate of Chester High School. She was a Methodist by faith. She was born in Johnsonville, WV, April 1, 1932, the daughter of the late Harvey and Julia Prosser Pickins. She lived her life in the Tri-State Area and was employed at the Montgomery Ward Store and the Sayre Electric Supply Co. She graduated from Chester High School. She was a member fo the Calvary United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and was active with the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts. She is survived by her husband, Dale E. Matthews, whom she married Oct. 10, 1951; two sons, Dale E. Matthews Jr. of Pickerington, Ohio and Donald E. Matthews of Milton, Wisc.; a sister, Mrs. Theodore (Dorothea) Nusser of East Liverpool; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Pickins. The Rev. Mayhew Sr., 79, of New Manchester died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at the East Liverpool Extended Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was born in New Manchester Feb. 27, 1918, a son of the late John H. and Maude Stewart Mayhew. Mr. Mayhew was a retired employee of the research and developement department of National Steel. He was a lifelong member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church, where he werved many years as deacon. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 22, Chester American Legion Post 121 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6450. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, mary Lou Banfield Mayhew at home; two sons, Robert H. Mayhew, Jr. of Houston, TX and Dr. John R. Mayhew of Harpers ferry, WV; two sisters, jane Stover and Sarah Polen of New Manchester, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise McConnell and three brothers, John Henderson Mayhew, Stewart Mayhew and Shields Mayhew. The Rev. McElroy, 90. of Owens Road, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Chester April 10, 1907, a daughter of the late John Roy and Edity Hutton Wycoff. An area resident all her life, she was a 71 year member of the First Christian Church. She was a charter member of the Liverpool Township Grange and a member of the Friendly Circle. She started and led a 4-H group in the Campground Road area. She also was a member of the election board for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur W. McElroy, who died March 17, 1988; two sons, Roy Calvin "Bud" McElroy and Thomas Virgil McElroy; a sister, Sara Reese; two brothers, Virgil Wycoff and John "Bus" Wycoff; and a granddaughter, Debra Marie McElroy. She is survived by two sons, Arthur William "Bill" McElroy Jr. of Cape Coral, FL and Frederick "Ted" McElroy, at home; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The Rev. He was born Jan. 25, 1935, in Toronto, the son of the late Charles W. and Nina Grace Mellott McClelland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dana Charles McClelland. He was a member of Stratton Church of the Nazarene. He retired from Weirton Steel Corp. Tin Mill after 37 years. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Belle (Orr) McClelland, whom he married Oct. 29, 1956; two sons, Cornell C. of Weirton and Shawn D. of the home; a brother, Harold B. of Weirton, and five grandchildren. CLARA ANN MCGINTY Newell, WV-- Clara Ann McGinty, 84, of Sixth Street, died at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at City Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Newell, April 15, 1913, a daughter of the late Oscar and Cordelia Pinney Stewart. She lived her life here, and was emplyed as a cook at City Hospital before retirement in 1980. She was a member of the Glendale Church of the Nazarene and it's Friendship Class. She was a 50 year member and a past noble grand of Newell Rebakah Lodge 74, where she held several offices. JOHN ALLEN STEWART Hookstown, PA- John Allen Stewart, 73, of Hookstown, died Tuesday, Feb 10, 1998, at the home of his daughter, Susan K. Tolikas of Shippingport, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Chester, Jan. 5, 1925, a son of the late marion Wayne and Florence May Bell Stewart. He retired as a furnaceman from Teledyne Vasco, Colonial Plant in Monaca, where he was employed for 37 1/2 years. He was an elder 12 years at the Mill Creek United Presbyterian Church and served on the Christian education, building and grounds, nominating and outreach committees. He was a former member of the Service United Presbyterian Church and was ordained an elder there Dec. 1, 1959. He also served as clerk of Session for several years and as youth director, Sunday school teacher and Bible school chairman. He was historian of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery and served on its ministry and preparation for ministry committees. He was secretary of the board of directors eight years at the John Anderson memorial Cemetery in Raccoon Township. Since 1973, he was a 7th Degree member of the Raccoon and Hookstown granges. He helped organize the Agriculture Preservation Security Committee in Beaver County and Raccoon Township and served seven years on the Raccoon Township Committee. He served four years on the Hookstown Fair Community Tent and One Room School Committees. He served with the Merchant Marines in the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the South Side Area Senior Citizens. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed by the Orlando, Florida police department from 1963-1967. In 1967, he graduated at the top of his class from the West Virginia State Police Academy, Institute, WV. He retired from the WV State Police in 1992, having served for 26 years. He was a retired as a machinist from the Weirton Steel Corp. and as a building contractor for Wilson Construction. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps. in World War II. He was past president of the Colliers Sportsmans Club and an original member of the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Weirton. She was forn Feb. 22, 1928, in Holidays Cove, WV, a daughter of the late Fred L. and Nina Devitt Hood. A resident of Laguna Hills since December 1996, she was employed 35 years at the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph ?Co. holding various job assignments before retiring as manager of Northridge (Calif.) TSPS in 1983. Following retirement, she was a real estate agent for Merril Lynch in Valencia, Calif., and later was hired as a consultant for Com-Systems in Van Nuys, Calif. In 1995, she was selected Ambassador of the Year by the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce. Sh is survived by a son, John F. Wilson III of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; three brothers, Howard Hood of Woodsfield, Ohio, Frew W. DOROTHY WINGETT Myler Park, OH-- Dorothy E. Wingett, 76, of Myler Park, Ohio, died on Saturday in the East Liverpool City Hospital. She was born on May 3, 1921, in Chester, WV, the daughter of William and Mary Eichler Smith, and was a lifeling area resident. Mrs. Wingett was employed with the former Taylor, Smith and Taylor Pottery, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Chester Church of the Nazarene, where whe once taught Sunday School and youth classes and was a board member. She was a member of the Area Senior Citizens. Her husband, Elroy Wingett, died on Dec. 6, 1986. She is survived by two sons, William Wingett at home and Gunnery Sgt. Bob Wingett of Camp Lejeune, NC; four sisters, Mrs. Stewart (Hazel) Snyder of Glenmoor, Mrs. Grace Hoffman and Mrs. Mary Green, both of East Liverpool, Mrs. Sue Watson of New Manchester, WV and a grandson.
