MCCARTY THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, March 24, 1999 Jenna L. McCarty, age 70 of Winchester, VA passed away on Thursday, March 18, 1999 at the Winchester Medical Center. Born July 5, 1928 in Bridgeport, Ohio, she was the daughter of George W. and Grace Swartz Rupp. Mrs. McCarty was a clerk at Super Fresh and a member of Stephens City United Methodist Church. She was married to Joseph Andrew "Andy" McCarty, who passed away on May 15, 1983. Surviving are two daughters, Judith M. Stump of Moorefield, and Deborah M. Fauver of Winchester, VA and one brother, George W. Rupp, Jr. of St. Clairsville, Ohio; one grandchild. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 20, 1999 at the Jones Home Chapel with Rev. William R. Withers officiating. Burial was in the Greenhill Cemetery in Stephens City, VA. Pallbearers were Clifford Stump, Brian M. Fauver, Doni Croson, William R. MACCORKLE THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, August 21, 1996 Andrew Athey "Andy" MacCorkle, age 73, of Greenville, SC and a former resident of Arlington, VA, passed away at his residence on Monday morning, August 12, 1996. Mr. MacCorkle was born September 30, 1922, in Old Fields, WV. He was the son of the late William Owen MacCorkle, Sr. and Nan Athey MacCorkle. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, William Carter MacCorkle and another brother, William Owen McCorkle of Wheeling, WV, who also passed away Monday morning, August 12, 1996. Surviving are two brothers, Tazwell MacCorkle of Wilmington, Delaware and Dwight MacCorkle of Hayesville, North Carolina. Mr. MacCorkle retired from Eastern Airlines in Washington, D.C., was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and he was a member of the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Alexandria, VA. Joint funeral services for the two brothers were conducted on Thursday at the Elmore-Chambers Funeral Home in Moorefield with the Rev. John Grove of Wheeling officiating. MCCORKLE THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, August 21, 1996 William Owen McCorkle, age 71, of Wheeling, WV passed away on Monday morning, August 12, 1996, at the Veterans Hospital in Aspenwall, Pennsylvania. Mr. McCorkle was born May 17, 1925 in Old Fields, WV. He was the son of the late, William Owen MacCorkle, Sr. and Nan Athey MacCorkle. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Carter MacCorkle and Andrew A. MacCorkle, who also passed away Monday morning, August 12, 1996. Surviving are his wife, Sara Edith Bennington McCorkle of Wheeling; one son, William O. McCorkle of Belmont, Ohio; two daughters, Marlene Sue McCorkle, and Diana "Dee" M. Born August 28, 1921 in Old Fields, WV, he was the son of the late Robert Leroy and Lucia (Weese) McDonald. Besides his parents, Mr. McDonald was also preceded in death by three brothers. Surviving are his wife, Hazel (Woerner) McDonald of Moorefield; one son, Donald L. McDonald of Wardensville, WV; two sisters, Ruby Hines of Petersburg, WV and Wanda Sherman of Moorefield; and two grandchildren. Mr. McDonald was a former Superintendent of the Moorefield Water Plant, having worked for the Town of Moorefield for over 21 years and was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church. THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, January 26, 2000 Daniel Patrick McGahagan, Jr., age 48 of Moorefield, WV, died Monday evening, January 17, 2000 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Danny was born on November 26, 1951 in Baltimore, MD. He was the son of the late Daniel P. McGahagan and Clara Belle Liggett. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by one brother. Mr. McGahagan was a caregiver and member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church. MCNEILL THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, October 30, 1996 Mary V. McNeill, 89, of Wiley Ford, WV, passed away Monday, October 28, 1996 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, MD following a long illness. She was born February 14, 1907 at Milam, WV, a daughter of the late Noah and Martha (Simmons) Emswiller. Mrs. McNeill was preceded in death by her husband James McNeill in November of 1976. Surviving are one son, James, Jr., and wife Margaret McNeill of Ridgeley, WV; two daughters, Jean and husband, Denver High of Ridgeley, WV and Betty McNeill of Wiley Ford, WV; six grandchildren, Deanna, Gregory and Dana High, Teresa Kincaid, Ricky and Sharon McNeill; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. MARSTON THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, July 30, 1997 Forrest L. Marston, age 57, of Baker, WV, passed away Monday, July 21, 1997 at Lewistown, PA. He was born October 18, 1939 in Lost City, WV, the son of the late Curtis and Mildred Schell Marston. He was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Surviving is his wife, Peggy G. Born December 27, 1903 in Kessel, WV she was a daughter of the late Roy V. and Mary (Eisenhouer) Welton. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Martin in August 1970, one son, four brothers and one sister. She was a member of the Epiphany Catholic Church of Moorefield. MATHIAS THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, August 28, 1996 Ollie Wise Shipe Mathias, 73, of Bergton, died August 21, 1996 at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, where she had been a resident since June 4, 1996. Mrs. Mathias was born February 15, 1923 in Mathias, WV and was the daughter of the late John A. and Mabel T. Moyers Shipe. She was a member of the Mathias Church of the Brethren and a substitute teacher for the Rockingham County School System. On August 6, 1945 she married Stanley S. Mathias who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Sherrie L. Carr of Linville; three sisters, Ina Sheets of Nitro, WV, Faye Hare of Baltimore, MD, Velda Keller of Lost River; one brother, Arnold Shipe of Baltimore, MD; one granddaughter. The Rev. Box 19, Bergton, VA 22811. ************************************************ MARY DASHER MATHIAS THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, September 25, 1996 Mary Dasher Mathias, age 84, of Moorefield passed away Thursday evening, September 19, 1996 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. Born February 27, 1912 in Moorefield, WV, she was the daughter of the late Manasseh and Daisy (Rodgers) Dasher. Besides her parents, Mrs. Mathias was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. One brother survives, Wayne Dasher of Danbury, CT. Mary Dasher Mathias wed John A. Mathias on August 7, 1931. They had three sons, David K. Mathias of Old Fields, WV, Thomas G. Mathias of Moorefield, WV and Dr. John A. Mathias, Jr. of Buchanan, WV, all of who survive. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one step-grandchild. Mr. and Mrs. Mathias were among the thirteen graduates of the Moorefield High School Class of 1929. Mrs. Mathias then graduated from the Fairmont Business College, became secretary to the G. W. McCauley Law Firm. She was a member of Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church for 72 years where she belonged to Circle #1 and was a member of the Moorefield Handy Extension Homemakers Club. Funeral services were held at the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Ted Osgood officiating. Burial followed in the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield. Pallbearers were Paul Leatherman, Warden Hott, Jay Mathias, Bob Glorioso, Clyde Grimes, Teddy Garrett and Steve Evans. MATHIAS THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, April 23, 1997 Owen Samuel "Red" Mathias, age 73 of Wardensville, West Virginia died Wednesday, April 16, 1997 in Stephens City, Virginia. Mr. Mathias was born on January 28, 1924 in Mathias, West Virginia the son of the late Charles Luther and Clementine Cleaver Mathias. He was owner of the Speed Queen Wash in Wardensville and had previously been in shipping/handling with Rubbermaid where he retired after 16 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wardensville, West Virginia. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Science from Eastern Tennessee State University and was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Mathias married Bobbie Nell Langston on July 3, 1953 in Johnston City, Tennessee. Surviving with his wife are two daughters Marilyn Holliday of Stephens City, VA, Avis Drummond of Lebanon Church, VA; two stepchildren, two sisters, Ama Morgan and Audrey Mathias both of Oakridge, TN. Three brothers have preceded him in death. A funeral service was conducted Friday at First Baptist Church in Wardensville, WV, with the Reverend John Crisman officiating. He was born January 14, 1918 in Petersburg, WV and was a son of the late Harvey J. and Lena (Feaster) Mauzy. Twice married, he was preceded in death by Nellie V. (Ours) Mauzy, May 4, 1977 and Leatrice (Kimble) Mauzy, May 13, 1991. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Mauzy and Rev. Carl Mauzy; one sister, Viola Mongold; one granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters, Brittany and Bethany Mauzy. Mr. Mauzy was a carpenter and member of the Brake Church of the Brethren, Dorcas, WV. He had been a resident of Grant County Nursing Home since June 10, 1997. Mr. Mazalewski served in the United States Army, had been an operator of a Metro Train for DC Transit, and was a member of the Epiphany Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Kensington, MD. "Radar" Michael, age 58, of 24 Central Avenue, Petersburg, WV died Friday, March 12, 1999 at Grant Memorial Hospital. Born June 11, 1940 in Petersburg, WV he was the son of the late Merl H. Michael and Flossie (Wolfe) Michael. Preceded in death in addition to his parents is one brother, William Neil Michael in 1945. Ray was a bookkeeper for Potomac Engineering until 1992. He was office clerk for his brother, Gene G. Michael Nationwide Insurance Agency in Petersburg and was scorekeeper for Petersburg High School basketball games and Little League for several years. He was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church and Treasurer of Independent Order of Odd Fellows 408, Petersburg, WV and a member of Burlington United Methodist Family Services Auxiliary. He was born May 7, 1932 at Mathias, WV the son of the late Walter L. and Pearl L. See Moyer. He was a US Air Force Veteran during the Korean Conflict, serving three years in the Caribbean Air Command at Albrook, A.F.B., Panama and Ramey A.F.B., Puerto Rico. He was a graduate of West Virginia University in 1959 with a B.S. in Forestry and Wildlife Management. He also completed some graduate work at the University of Michigan. His 41-year career with the United States Forest Service began in Monterey CA on the King City District and Supervisors office in Santa Barbara. He was subsequently transferred to the Weaverville District Shasta-Trinity National Forest, then to South Lake Tahoe, Eldorado National Forest. His tour of duty also included a transfer to the Big Bar District of the Trinity National Forest. The last 21 years of his career were spent on the Wayne-Hoosier National Forest on the Athens and Marietta Districts in Ohio. He retired in January 1998. Surviving is his wife, whom he married on February 10, 1950, Verda E. (Ratcliff) Moyers; one daughter, Judy A. Rohrbaugh and husband, Gerald of Petersburg, WV; three grandchildren, Lisa (Rohrbaugh) Delawder of Old Fields, WV; Bradley S. Rohrbaugh of Anmoore, WV and Wesley A. Rohrbaugh of Petersburg, WV; five great-grandchildren, Samantha Hedrick, Tawnee Bowman, Brittany White, Stephen Rohrbaugh and Kirklin Delawder; one brother, Lawnie Moyers, a resident of Nella's Nursing Home, Elkins, WV; three sisters, Effie Wolford, a resident of Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg; Angie Hatcher and Orpha Staffer of Petersburg, WV. Funeral services were held at the Lighthouse Community Church in Maysville, WV with the Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating. Interment was in South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV. MOYERS THE MOOREFIELD (WV) EXAMINER, Wednesday, August 13, 1997 William Harrison "Bill" Moyers, age 62, of Vilas, North Carolina, died Monday, August 4, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, North Carolina. He was born December 30, 1934, in Moorefield, West Virginia, to the late Homer and Bertie Whetzel Moyers. He served in the U.S. Army and was a former truck driver for United Van Lines in Roanoke, Virginia. He was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Allen Moyers of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Farris and husband, Paul of Vinton, Virginia and Ms. Kathy Dogan of Roanoke, Virginia; one son, Bill Moyers, Jr. of Roanoke; one granddaughter, Nichole Relf; and one grandson, Adam Relf, both of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Moyers. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 9, at Forest Grove Baptist Church in Vilas with Rev. Wynn Greer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hampton Funeral Service in Boone was in charge of the arrangements. ************************************************
