The Motor Car Supply Company of Charleston, of which H. P. Shepherd is organizer and president, is a wholesale concern exclusively, dealing in automobile supplies, accessories, parts, garage machinery and equipment Its borne is a modern five-story brick structure at 908 Kanawha Street, the entire building being occupied for salesroom and stock, though the company has been in existence less than two years, its growth has brought It a magnitude that gives it favorable comparison with many of the largest wholesale establishments of Charleston, a city in which are grouped some of the lead-ing wholesale interests of the state. This success is an especial tribute to the keen, alert and conservative management of its executive, who has exhibited business ability of the very first order. Mr. Shepherd was born at Coffeen, Montgomery County, Illinois, and as a boy he attended the local schools there. He finished his education in Valparaiso University in Indiana, and on leaving school went to Chicago. Be entered business life as a bookkeeper, later becoming a credit man, and remained in Chicago for ten years. As a credit man he removed to Des Moines, Iowa, and while in that city became actively interested in the automobile business, a field in which his experience has been continuous since about 1909. Early in 1919 Mr. Shepherd came to Charleston, and was associated with the Baldwin Supply Company until he organized the Motor Car Supply Company, which began business in Charleston January 1, 1921. Mr. Shepherd is a member of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, the Kanawha Country Club, Lions Club and is a Knight Templar Mason and Shriner and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston. He married Miss Bessie A. Robertson, of Moberly, Missouri.
