Their known children were: William McCan, married Martha Staten 1851, Patrick McCan, married Martha White in 1857, no doubt there were other children, and we believe the Mry McCan found in Meigs County OH later was the same Mary (Polly) McCan This Daniel McCan seems to disappear after 1832, and it is not known where he went. There is a report of the murder of John Nicholas, by a group called the "Hell Fired Band" and is a report from "Recollections of a Lifetime" by Col. Daniel S Deewees Jan 1, 1927, .where he writes of this murder of Jonathon Nicholas and the Hell Fired Band., who lived chiefly in the camps in the wilderness and by hunting and fishing. The names of the men who were sentenced for John Nicholas's murder were: Daniel McCune (have also seen it in other places as "Daniel McCan), Joseph Parsons, Jackson Cottrill, Alexander Turner. They were all sentenced to the penitentiary at Richmond, Va. for 18 years each. Alexander Turner died at or near White Sulphur Springs. while on the road en route to Richmond. Joseph Parsons died soon after reaching Richmond. Joseph Cottrill was pardoned about five years after his conviction. Daniel McCune (McCan?) died in the prison at Richmond about seven years after he was sentenced. Dorothy McCann-Phillips
