W Wade Halterman

Last Rites were held for W. Wade Halterman, 74, at the McWhorter M. E. Church.
He died in St. Joseph's Hospital following a month's illness due to a heart
condition. Services were conducted by the Rev. A. H. Resse, Rev. John Holbert
and the Rev. Fitzpatrick, with interment in the Freemansburg cemetery.

He was a descendant of one of the oldest Lewis County families. His grand
parents migrated from Highland County, Virginia in the early 1800s, settling in
the Freemansburg community.

He was born there October 12, 1878, the oldest son of the late James Buchanan
and Amanda Burnside Halterman, prominent farmers in the community.

He was married Sept. 28, 1906 to Rose C. Batten of Weston. Surviving are the
widow, four daughter Mrs. Lorena Butterfield of Washington D. C., Mrs. Breca
Westfall Buckhannon, Mrs. Virginia Waggoner of Lost Creek and Mrs. Christine
Romine of Charleston; and two sisters, Mrs. Lillian B. Reese of Freemansburg and
Mrs. Clara Gay Droppleman of West Union. There are nine grand children.

Mr. Halterman was employed at the Weston State Hospital for 15 years; by the
Pittsburgh and West Virginia Gas Company for 23 years. Prior to his retirement
in 1940 he was working for the Hope Gas Company.

He was a lifelong member of the Freemansburg United Brethren Church and was
active in the McWhorter church until failing health forced his retirement.
