H. Hardesty D. STANTON EVANS -- engaged in farming and stock-raising in Fairmont district, is one of the substantial residents of Marion county. He was born in Fairmont district February 29, 1840, a son of Thomas Ward Demoss Evans, who came to Marion county in the fall of '38, from Monroe county, Ohio, of which State and county he was a native. The mother of D. Stanton was Maria (Barnhouse) (Arnett) Evans, born in Hampshire county, Virginia (now West Virginia). The marriage of D. Stanton Evans and Cornelia Frances Russell was solemnized at Booths creek, Grant district, Marion county, November 30, 1871. Their children, all at home, are seven, born: Alfred Clyde, October 8, 1872; Mary Catharine, December 12, 1873; Georgie Blanche, October 16, 1875; Thomas Russell, January 7, 1878; James Morrow, May 19, 1879; Leonard Carr, March 2, 1881; and Charles Lewis, May 27, 1882. William K. Russell, a native of Frederick county, Virginia, and Elizabeth Jane (Wilson) Russell, born in Hardy county, Virginia (now West Virginia), were the parents of Cornelia Frances, wife of Mr. Evans, and she was born in Fairmont, January 26, 1848. The farm of Mr. Evans was the scene of many daring and romantic adventures in encounters between the first white settlers and the Indians, there being at one time an established Indian camp on the place. Mr. Evans served on year, 1870, as township treasurer, the last under the Old Constitution, and had filled various district offices.
