Sunday night Fluharty was one of 10 Koppers Federal division foremen honored at a safety dinner in the Fairmont hotel. He had gone seven years and four months without a lost-time accident, and he received due recognition and an appropriate award for that accomplishment. Death, to whom mines are a favorite hunting ground, must have looked at Fluharty's record and those of the other men honored at the Kopper's banquet, with alarm. He must make up for lost time. So yesterday morning, as Fluharty was "taking a point" at a heading in the mine, a mass of slate fell from the ceiling where he was working. It crushed his skull. County Coroner D. E. Kidd was called to make an investigation and said an inquest would not be necessary. Fluharty's widow was in Baltimore, Md., at the time of the accident and was notified yesterday afternoon. The body was brought to the R. C. Jones funeral home but arrangements are incomplete pending her arrival here. There are no children. The deceased was a son of Zoie and James Lewis Fluharty and a brother of Guy Fluharty, of this city. Additional Comments: from Memorial Card at the funeral Born in Grant Town, W.
