Creighton to Daniel Winters Marshall County Courthouse, Deed Book 27, p. 397-398: Transcribed by Laura Thomas, May 31, 1998 This Deed made the 30th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Eighty three between James Marshall and wife and John D. Creighton & wife of Marshall Co., West Va. of the first part and Daniel Winters of the same county & State of the second part: Witnesseth: that in consideration of the sum of Three Thousand Dollars, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged the said parties of the first part do grant unto the said Party of the second part the following described property that is to say: A certain track [sic] or parcel of land situated in Marshall Co. West Va. And bounded as follows, beginning by a hickory thence by lands of Sam'l Alley, S. 351/4 E. 83 p., thence to a stone, thence 701/4 W. 16 p. to a post, thence S. 503/4° W. 56 p. to a red oak stump, thence by land of Harsh S. 341/2 W. 26 p. to a stone, thence N. 89° W. 22 p. to a white oak, thence N. 861/2 W. 67 p. to a stone, thence N. 731/2 W. 99 p. to a White Oak, thence S. 85 W. 44 p. to a temporary line, thence with said line N. 68.5 p. to a post in said line, thence by land of Mordachia Amos S. 36 E. 146 p. to near a small beech, thence by land of Henry Wilson S. 1° E. 41 p. to a stone, thence N. 513/4 E. 134 p. to the place of beginning and containing one hundred and thirty three acres and one hundred and forty seven perches being the same track conveyed to said J. Marshall & J.D. Creighton by heirs of John Lee, dec'd. And the said parties of the first part do hereby covenant with the said party of the second part that they will warrant Generally the property hereby conveyed. Trussell, a Justice of the Peace do certify that Sarah E. the wife of James Marshall, whose names are signed to the writing hereto annexed bearing date on the 30th day of March one thousand eight hundred and 83 Personally appeared before me in my County aforesaid and being duly examined by me privily and apart from her husband and having the writing aforesaid Fully explained to her she the said Sarah E. Marshall acknowledged the said writing to be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and do not wish to retract it. Given under my hand this 31st day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and 83. J.R. Trussell State of W. Va. Marshall County, to wit: I, J.R. Trussell, a Justice of the Peace do certify that Elizabeth J., the wife of John D. Creighton whose names are signed to the writing hereto annexed bearing date on the 30th day of March AD 1883. Personally appeared before me in my County aforesaid and being duly examined by me privily and apart from her husband and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said Elizabeth J. Creighton acknowledged the said writing to be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it. Given under my hand this 30th day of March AD 1883. J.R.
