Bingham Article - McDowell Co. WV MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR GARY YOUTH ------------------------------------------------------- To Be Held Sunday At Methodist Church Memorial services for Cpl. Thomas Stewart Bingham, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Bingham, of Gary, who was killed in action in India on August 7, will be conducted from the Gary Methodist Church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock with the Rev. J.P. Byrd in charge. The choir will sing several selections. Friends of the youth and the Bingham family are invited. Cpl. Bingham was born at Hiwassee college, Madisonville, Tenn., on Nov. 7, 1924. He received his early schooling at Morgan, Pa., and later attended Gary high school where he was graduated in 1943. While attending the Gary school he was a part time employee of the Gary Service Station of the United Supply Co. During 1942 he was a star player with the Gary Coaldigger football team and was a member of the all-county team and received honorable mention on the all-state. The Gary youth entered the service on May 19, 1943 and received his basic training at Gulfport Field, Gulfport, Miss. He received additional training at Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas, and the Army Air Field, Great Bend, Kans., qualifying as an airplane mechanic. Cpl. Bingham was sent overseas last February, stationed first in North Africa and later was sent to India with the American Air Force. Surviving are his parents, one sister, Mrs. Ora Collins of Zabulon, Ky., seven brothers, four of them in service: Lt. H.A. Bingham, Jr., army air corps now in Victoria, Kans., A-T Luther C. Bingham, army air forces, Cochran Field, Ga.; Ensign Eugene Bingham, Letchfield Park, Ariz.; Cadet David Bingham, A.S.T.R.U., University of Ohio, Dayton, Oh; and Louis, William and Richard, all at home.
