The News and Advance Lynchburg, Virginia November 12.2002 Charles William Shannon native of McDowell County, West Virginia Charles William Shannon, 88, of Evington, Virginia died Sunay, November 10th, 2002 Born in Roderfield, W. Va., March 19, 1914, he was a son of the late Samuel Douglas Shannon and Bessie Lindsey Shannon. He was a retired machinist with the International Harvester, a U.S. Navy World War 11 veteran having survived Pearl Harbor, served on the USS Nevada as Chief Turret Captian. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sadie Smith and Blanche Blankenship Tucker, and his former wife, Virginia Quizenbury Shannon. He is survived by a son, Charles Wesley Shannon and his wife, Carol, of Santa Clarita, Calif.; two daughters, Nora Wielock and her husband, Larry of Northridge, Clif.; a brother Curtis D. Shannon of Lynchburg; three sisters, Irene Sheffey, Mary Burnette both of Lynchburg, Elizabeth Lacy of Bedford; five grandchildren, Jill Wielock, Todd Wielock, Debbie Seimser, Michael Kettelkamp, Vickie Howe, eight great-grandchidren and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:am Thursday in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by his nephew the Rev. Danny Smith with burial to follow in the Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will recieve friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to United Cerebral Palsy Association, 7 Peen Plaza, Suite 804, New York, NY 10001 Heirtage Funeral Service and Crematory, 423 Graves Mill Road, is in charge of arrangements.
