Ephraim Cook Grant, 1853 EPHRAIM COOK - 185 ACRES - MERCER CO., VA - 1/1/1853 Joseph Johnson Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia; to all to whom these presents shall come--Greetings: Know ye that in conformity with a survey made on the twentieth day of November One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Three by virtue of a land office treasury warrant no. 19651 there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto EPHRAIM COOK a certain tract or parcel of land, containing one hundred and eighty five acres lying in Mercer County, on waters of Tom’s Run waters of New River and bounded as followeth, viz. Beginning at two white oaks and dogwood on a south point thence North 30 degrees East 18 poles toa black oak on the (?) of a hill North 8 degrees 30 minutes East 70 poles to a chestnut oak on an east point North 8 degrees 30 minutes West 112 poles crossing spring branch and running over a high piney point to two chestnuts growing from one root, a hickory and dogwood by a cliff of rock on the (?) of New River hill in fair view of the Warford of New River North 45 West 30 poles to two chesetnuts in a rocky place near the dry rocks North 66 degrees West passing said rocks at 20 poles, 70 poles to a gum in the edge of a flat North 36 degrees West 50 poles crossing a rocky hollow to two speckled oak saplings North 19 degrees East 46 poles to two hickories on a northwest point North 70 degrees West 42 poles to two chestnuts on the end of a ridge opposite GIDEON FARLEY’s house South 55 degrees West 73 poles to a chestnut oak South 8 degrees East 43 poles to two white oaks corner to JAMES FARLEY’s, leaving FARLEY’s South 40 degrees East 52 poles to two speckled oak saplings thence South 41 degrees East 22 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, with its appurtenances, to the said EPHRAIM COOK and his heirs forever. In witness whereof, the said Joseph Johnson Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the Lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed, at Richmond, on the first day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Three, and of the Commonwealth the seventy seventh.
