Gideon Farley Grant, 1857 Henry A Wise, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia; To all to whom these presents shall come---Greetings: Know ye that in conformity with a survey made on the eighth day of June One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Seven by virtue of Land Office Treasury Warrant No. 21724 there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto GIDEON FARLEY a certain tract or parcel of land, containing one hundred acres in Mercer County on Clay’s Neck branch, waters of Tom’s Run, waters of New River, and bounded as followeth, viz. Beginning at a stopping white oak corner to the STEWART survey, and also the beginning corner of a tract of 20 acres granted to said FARLEY and with the lines of the latter reversing their courses North 86 degrees East 30 poles to two white oaks South 4.30 degrees West 40 poles to a white oak near a spring and leaving it and with the closing lines of a tract of 100 acres surveyed for ANDREW FARLEY JR South 46 degrees East 28 poles to a chestnut oak and leaving and with three lines of a tract of 50 acres surveyed for ASA M ELLISON reversing their courses North 33 degrees East 51 poles to a chestnut and speckled oak sapling on a ridge South 71 degrees East 38 poles to a chestnut oak near the top of the ridge South 86 degrees East 64 poles to a chestnut and white oak on the break of Clay’s Rock ridge and corner to a tract of 45 acres surveyed for ROBERT HURT and with one line thereof North 70 degrees East 40 poles to a white oak, black oak and hickory sapling and leaving said survey South 75 degrees East 14 poles toa white oak, hickory, maple and hickory and maple from one root, North 65 degrees East crossing Clay’s Neck branch at 14 poles, 20 poles to a white oak South 75 degrees East 14 poles to a double speckled oak on a hill side North 11 degrees East 26 poles to a black oak North 48 degrees West 90 poles to a white oak, black oak sapling over near a line of DREWRY FARLEY’s land South 82 degrees West 162 poles to a hickory and black oak in a line of the STEWART survey and with one line thereof South 40 degrees West 60 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, with its appurtenances, to the said GIDEON FARLEY and his heirs forever.
