S. H. AUSTIN TAKEN BY DEATH -------- Active Minister of Holston Conference Passes at Gary: Main Services Will Be Held In Bland St. Church Here -------- The Rev. Sumpter H. Austin, 48, an active minister of Holston conference for the past 27 years, died suddenly yesterday morning at his home in Gary, victim of a heart ailment. Rev. Mr. Austin was a native of Mercer county and widely known throughout this section. The body was brought here yesterday and prepared for burial by Mercer Funeral home and will be returned to his home in Gary this morning at 10:30. Rites Saturday On Saturday morning the body will be removed to the Gary Methodist church at 9:30 o'clock and funeral services will be conducted there by the Rev. C. G. Eastwood, pastor of the Gary Methodist church. Following the services at Gary the body will be returned to Bluefield and will be taken to Bland Street Methodist church at 12:45 noon where it will lie at rest until 2 o'clock when the main funeral service will be conducted. The Rev. C. G. Eastwood, the presiding elder of the Bluefield district, will be in charge and will be assisted by the Rev. W. P. Eastwood, pastor of Bland Street Methodist church: The Rev. W. E. Wiley, pastor of Trinity Methodist church; the Rev. H. E. Kelso, of Princeton, and the Rev. G. K. Patty, of Welch. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Members of the board of stewards of the Gary Methodist church will act as pallbearers. Various Charges For nearly two years pastor in the Gary charge, the Rev. Mr. Austin had held charges in various sections of the coalfileds as well as in Tennessee. Born in Oakvale, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Austin, Mr. Austin received his ministerial training at Emory and Henry college, Emory, Va. He served at Maybeury for six years, at Bramwell for four, at Keystone for a number of years, also at Elizabethton, Churchill, and Erwin, Tenn., and at Norton, Va. Immediately before going to Gary, his charge was at Elizabethton. Mr. Austin leaves his wife, who was the former Miss Grace Albert, of Pipestem, W. Va., and the following children: S. H., Jr., of Ronceverte; Mrs. Hal Miller, of Elizabethton; Paul, of Elizabethton; James, a student at Greenbrier Military Academy at Lewisburg; Nell, Betty, David and [illegible] He leaves [illegible] brothers and sisters: Charles, of Bluefield; H. L., of Wytheville; J. E. of High Point, N. C.; Harry, of New Orleans, and Mrs. J. L. Smith of Greenup, Ky. Another brother, Milton, of Bluefield, and a sone, Warren C. are dead.
