Hazel Owen Lambert Obituary, 1999 - Mercer Co. WV HAZEL OWEN LAMBERT Banner Elk, NC.,-Mrs Hazel Owen Lambert, 84 of Banner Elk, died Thursday, March 4, 1999. Born in McDowell County to Robert Howard Owen and Ollie Mae Farley Owen. She was the last of her generation. Moving to Mercer County in the New Hope area. She graduated from Glenwood High School and for many years attended New Hope Methodist Church. She also attended Concord College. Roanoke Va. was her home for most of her adult life, where she was a member of Raleigh Court Methodist Church. She was and active poet and artist and belonged to the poetry society of Virginia. The New Hope Methodist Church was the subject of several poems and paintings she would do throughout her life. She was preceded in death by one sister, Augusta Owen; two brothers, Robert Earl Owen and James Lee Owen; and husband Dr. Millard Hurst Lambert. Survivors include one daughter; Deka Lambert Tate and husband Dr. William C. Tate,MD of Banner Elk; sons, Millard Hurst Lambert and wife Gail of Roanoke, Va., and Howard Kennerly Lambert and wife Carol of Bloomfield, NJ; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephews, Larry Owen, Mike Owen and Danny Owen all of Princeton, and Robert E. Owen jr. of NJ and James Lee Owen jr. of Texas; neices, Carol Meador, Judy Stone, both of Florida; Becky Owen of North Carolina and Beth Owen of Washington, D.C.; sister-in-law Skip Owen of Princeton, and Many great nephews and great neices. Hazel was cremated and a memorial service was held at the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church, Banner Elk. She was attending this church and had made Banner Elk her home the last years of her life. A final farewell at the Lambert Cemetery, Lambert Lane is scheduled for Saturday where she will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. Friends and family are asked to meet at the Melrose Presbyterian Church parking lot prior to the services.
