Nov 2, 1933 HENDERSON E. MARTIN PROMINENT ATHENS CITIZEN SUCCUMBS ------- Henderson E. Martin, 74, prominent Athens citizen, died at his home about noon Wednesday following an illness of two years. Death was attributed to cancer. Funeral service will be conducted at the Athens methodist church this afternoon at 3 o'clock followed by interment in the Athens cemterey. The Rev. A. B. Moore and the Rev. O. C. Wright will officate. The pall bearers selected are: R. G. oxley, Dr. S. R. Holroyd, John Bailey, Gilbert Bailey, Bub Shumate, George Alvis, Tom Sentz and Claude Martin. Nurses who served Mr. Martin while he was a patient in Memorial hospital, Princeton, and the Bluefield sanitarium will act as flower bearers. Henderson E. Martin was born in Mercer county, March 19, 1859. In 1884 he was married to Lillie G. Shumate. he started his career as a school teacher, and then became a merchant. Later he served as a deputy sheriff of this county, and was a member of the last board of equalization and review. he was a progressive farmer. Besides his widow he leaves the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Carl Palmer, Bluefield; Mrs. A. I. Hardin, of New Mexico; Mrs. Andrews Mickle, Johnson City, Tenn.; Mrs. Edward Johnson, War; Mrs. W. S. Wooddell, Mullens; Miss Thelma Martin, H. E.
