                    BASEBALL PLAYER DIES OF INJURIES

                        Of Widemouth Team, Hurt
                      Fatally In Game; Struck In
                        Abdomen By Thrown Ball
                              --------------

   Charles McKinney, 18, of Widemouth, died at 1:45 o'clock Sunday morning
at the Bluefield sanitarium, succumbing to injuries sustained last Wednesday
when he was sturck in the abdomen with a baseball.
   McKinney, a third baseman on the Widemouth baseball team, suffered a 
rupture of the intestines when he missed the ball while receiving a throw to 
the base.  The ball went through his glove and hand and struck him in the
abdomen.
   There was no indication at first that McKinney had been seriously hurt. 
On Friday he was brought to the sanitarium where examination disclosed that
his intestines had been ruptured.
   Young McKinney was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Landon McKinney and was a tipple 
employe for the American Coal Company.
