Mercer Co, WV Archives, Obituaries -- William Luther McKinney, 1944 Contributed July 19, 2008 for use in USGenWeb Archives By: Fred Spradlin, fspradlin@earthlink.net *********************************************************************** Bluefield Daily Telegraph, Sun., Oct. 15, 1944 William Luther McKinney, 53, of Basin, Wyoming county, former resident of Matoaka, died in the Memorial hospital, Princeton at 5:25 yesterday afternoon as the result of a heart attack suffered three hours earlier. he was stricken while hunting near Athens and was brought to the Princeton hospital. Mr. McKinney had been in declining health for the last year. he was born Feb 5, 1891 at Basin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James William McKinney. He was a member of the Methodist church. He is survived by his wife, Julia Graham McKinney, and the following children: Mrs. C. R. Godfrey, Wilbur and Luther, Jr., all of Matoaka, Ray and Malcolm, of Baltimore,Quentin and Glen, of the U. S. navy, Mrs. C. W. Akers, Katy and Frances, all of Basin. The following brothers and sisters also survice: C. W. McKinney, of Akron, Ohio, Samuel McKinney, of High Point, N. C., George McKinney of Herndon, Robert McKinney of Basin, Arthur McKiney, of High Point and Mrs. Charles Winston of Montcalm. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of the sons who are in the navy.
