Directions: This cemetery was located near Pentress. It was 2.5 mile from the 
intersection of Rt. 7 and 218S at Blacksville, going east on Rt. 7. 
On the right, on the edge of the bank stands one lone pine, all that remains 
of this cemetery.

In 1957 the graves in this cemetery were opened and removed to the Benefield Cemetery at Fairview, Marion
County, WV.  The cemetery was located on the property of Sadie Stewart, et al, in the right of way for a 
State Road Commission project.  John S. Stewart was employed by the State Road Commission to act as a witness, 
and as such, was present at all times during the disinterment of the decedents in the cemetery, to prevent the 
removal of any valuables or other things buried with them.  There were no monuments or markers.  Descendants
of the Stewart family have told me that when the coffins that were found, were opened, there was only a black
strip down the middle of it.  Record of this cemetery can be found in the Monongalia County Courthouse in 
Deed Book 552, page 56 and Deed Book 556, pages 153-156. There were 18 graves found.
